Ignore the noise. Pay no mind to the lazy takes from the outsiders. Miami has every single piece in place to have the #1 offense in college football. They made Mensah the highest paid player in college sports for a reason. It’s because he’s the next Joe Burrow, and you’re looking at an offense that can absolutely replicate what that 2019 LSU team did. Yes, the 2 rosters were built different. LSU was very top heavy at WR. They had 3-4 guys that seen the field. Thats because those guys were really good, of course. Chase and Jefferson are both top 5 NFL wideouts to this day. But what Miami has, is highly talented depth, both at WR and RB. I’d put our skill guys as a whole up against anyone’s. I think you’re gonna see a Cam Vaughn or a Josh Moore, perhaps both, take a massive leap with Mensah throwing them the ball. Burrow elevated the guys around him in a similar way. We have so many guys with different skill sets, we should be able to dissect any secondary. We have route runners, we have burners to take the top off, we got guys that can even do both.
What if Samourian Wingo has a Mali-type breakout freshman year? I think it’s in the cards. The real ones know that kid is special, whether it’s this year or the very near future. A name I keep hearing is Upshaw. Kid has been putting in the work. There’s a reason Mensah mentioned him as one of his most trusted connections since he got to Miami. We’ve already seen Cooper Barkate put up over 1,000 yards at Duke, and he’s gonna be what, the 2nd, 3rd option? Just incredible. What if Elijah Lofton, a kid I’ve never given up on, finally reaches his full potential at TE? I can see it because Mensah loves throwing to TE’s on 3rd-4th down. Elijah has to become the guy we seen at Bishop Gorman if we want to see this offense reach legendary status. I’m not one bit worried about the offensive line. Coach Mirabal deserves our respect for what he’s done the last few years and we’ve recruited the position very well during that time. Whoever the starting 5 is, I have zero doubts those guys are gonna gel and be a top-10 OL, at the very least by November.
And let’s not even compare our defense to 2019 LSU. There is no comparison. Miami is far superior in that department. Not even in the ballpark. I think we all know that by now.
So how does this offense reach its full potential by playoff time? It’s simple.
I want to see some absolute humiliation out there. It starts at Stanford on September 4th. Come out guns blazing and end the game before halftime. When we’re playing teams that simply aren’t on our level, we have to dominate them. Steve Kim has been saying this for months now and I’m going to echo this.
We. Need. Blowouts.
We should be up by 5+ touchdowns in the 3rd quarter against lesser opponents, at a minimum. Foot on the gas, no brakes. Then, that’s when you get the 2nd-3rd team skill players in and find out who’s the best of them. Every snap you can rest your key players is a snap you’re not risking injury to key players. And you’re giving young guys on both sides of the ball highly valuable experience that will carry over into the playoffs when depth means everything.
I think we all seen a different Mario Christobal at that press conference today. He knows the team he has better than we ever could, and honestly, he seemed more confident than any of us. He got there last year, so he and his staff now know exactly what they have to do to finish the job. Punch teams in the mouth, knock them down and never let them back up. When we have the killshot, we’re going to take it. That LSU offense had that type of aggression, and so will we.
College football has no idea what’s about to hit them.
