I know it's tough but just taking a good look at this offense it becomes clear that our problems run much deeper than playcalling and deeper than system fit. This offense literally has no foundation. The positional coaching with the possible exception of the WRs is on a level that is worse than bad. Every single unit on offense is on a different page. This offense isn't capable of doing anything well with any degree of consistency. This offense is so atrocious in the passing game that I seriously doubt that they could execute consistently against air.
Keep in mind that Richt is supposed to be an offensive coach as he has a backround as an OC. Let the following sink in. In year 3 Richt doesn't have a QB that can even function. This offense can do nothing. Nothing! Year 3 and there is zero evidence that a foundation even exists! Year 3 and what has this offense accomplished or become good at? Name one thing this offense has improved on since Richt got here. You can't because there isn't any. It begs the question...What have we been doing in practice for 3 years? That's a serious question.
This offense isn't just bad, it's historically bad. I haven't seen an offense so inept, so impotent and so flat out abysmal since Ryan Clement was behind center in 97 and that team was gutted by probation and 31 lost scholarships. I'll give the nod to the 97 offense because they gave the effort they just didn't have the players. Honestly this has got to be by far the worst coaching job I've seen since I started following UM in 81.
This university sits right on top of what is arguably the most fertile recruiting base in the country. The players here are known for their speed, quickness, agility, explosion, playmaking ability and competitiveness. With this in mind you would think that someone fortunate enough to be given the keys to this program would run the type of offense that would fit the type of players so easily found in the local recruiting base. You would think that a smart and shrewd head coach would run a variant of the spread offense with the emphasis on getting his playmakers the ball in space. We are literally watching the same B movie we saw during the Golden regime the difference being that this time the offense is the unit being terribly and inexplicably mismanaged.
Gentlemen, this has to go down as the flat out worse coaching job I have ever seen since I became a fan of this program. I've heard the rumors and discussion about Richt being forced to hire an OC that will have full control of the offense. While that idea was appealing to me at first, I have come to the realization that we cannot afford the luxury of allowing Mark Richt to have anything to do with this program. At this point he is a cancer that must be cut out and the sooner the better. I fully understand the financial aspect of such a move but failure to act quickly will just make things worse. Take the hit now or the damage to the program will only take that much longer to undo. There is no way around it. Mark Richt must go and he must go now.
