This is what has been missing at Miami for a very long time.

If I was in his spot, I'd do the same thing," he said. "You've got to be able to get a spark. When your quarterback's not playing good, then you've got to be able to make a change like that. For me, stats aren't everything. My No. 1 stat is to get the W. Our ultimate goal is to win the National Championship.”

For those who don’t know, these were the words of starting QB DJ Uiagalelei, of Clemson, after being benched for true freshman Cade Klubnik midway through the game this past Saturday. By all accounts DJ has/had been playing extremely well this year but Dabo felt the team needed a spark and it worked brilliantly. For far too long we’ve had a team full of “me, me, me” guys and nobody cares about their brother out there beside them. There’s no concern about winning, competing, letting your teammates down. I’ve been reading and hearing from a bunch of people who say that when this team loses there’s no look of concern, frustration, anger, or ANYTHING from our team. I used to put most of the blame on coaches when teams play this poorly, but where is the pride or sense of competing coming from this team? Nowhere. The old Miami teams didn’t need a coach to tell them to tackle hard, get fired up for a game, not commit 18 penalties, not turn the ball over 8 times in a game. I just thought it was interesting that while I was reading that response from DJ I was left thinking...where are those type of dudes on our squad? Nowhere to be found, and that’s a major issue.

They're calloused here. Clemson has a history of winning. When it doesn't happen, people look around, they're shocked, they're searching for answers. They're ****ed, they do whatever it takes to avoid it. When it does happen, it's all hands on deck to fix it. We have conditioned losers here. It's a loser program and has been for 15 years. So when we lose, eh, it sucks, but it's kinda what we do. Where we drinking tonight, boys?

This is the mentality that Mario must somehow change. Easier said than done. And especially when the majority of the kids you're trying to do it with come raised in a "me first" culture.

I just love how the fans on here are quick to blame players instead of starting at the top where accountability belongs. For Randy it was blame the selfish, lazy, entitled Coker Players, until folks realized Shannon wasn't good.
For Golden it was blame the selfish, lazy, entitled Shannon players, until people realize Golden wasn't good.
For Richt, it was blame the selfish lazy, entitled Golden players (except for that one season) until it became apparent Richt's offense was outdated, he was past his prime and dealing with health issues (he is the only one who gets a pass).
For Diaz, it was blame the selfish, lazy, entitled Richt players, until folks realized Diaz sucked.
For Mario it's well you get the idea.

Aren't you all tired of sounding like a broken record? Place the blame where it needs to be, starting right at the top. Lincoln Riley turned USC around from 4-8 before he got there to 6-1, Sonny Dykes turned TCU from 4-8 the year before he got there to 7-0 and a top 10 ranking. **** even Mike Elko turned Duke from 3-9 before he got there to what 4-3 this year (a team that recruits way below Miami standards). **** Josh Heupel turn UTenn's offense from ranked in the 100s before he got there to like top 15 his first year. Stop making excuses for ****** coaching. It's clear the players currently dont trust Mario or the staff. It's past the midway point and the team seems to be regressing as the season is going along. But yeah sure blame players posting on social media (as if players from other schools don't). I don't know how Mario's tenure here at Miami will be, but so far the entire program looks like **** from top to bottom (including the players).

I hear what you're saying but the USC comparison is terrible considering what they got in the portal. If TVD had Addison and Riley's offense could you imagine how good our offense would be.

Lincoln Riley got his QB to come with him from OU (as well as his star WR) and Jordan Addision to come over because they trust his ability as a coach (along with his proven track record) to get them to the next level. Also, playing in LA versus Norman, OK or Pittsburgh, PA didn't hurt either. Mario kinda struck out in the portal and had to kinda settle (at least on the offensive side).

Those players would have likely also regressed, and then you’d be calling them jags or selfish losers, too.

Mario is who he is. He needs someone that cares about him and the program to have an intervention and lock his *** up in a room until he accepts that his model will not work here.

Great coaches are known for being flexible. He is anything but that. He needs to get rid of his plodding offense that moves at a snail’s pace, and release the hounds with up tempo RPO spread.

Our team finished on a 6-1 roll last season, and fought in every one of those games, meaning that it’s more than just the players being lazy or not having a winning attitude. It all starts at the top.

Sorry Addison isn't regressing here even with Mario.

Wow....quite the post.

As much as it hurts to say it....you're 100% correct because those are ALL FACTS. And I for one, cannot and will not, argue with facts.

Post of the year material.

Our glory years were all during the Age of Aquarius... planets just lined up for us.

I saw the " me, me, me, me" culture begin in the Coker years and it seems to have been with us ever since. Are we as a people more prone to "me first" and our players are just like the general population of "me first" mentality? If this is the case, the top coaches must be able to somewhat break this mentality for the good of the team. Or. . . Are we recruiting the wrong kind of players to begin with? If so, it's again on the coaches (mostly Manny's kids now with some of Mario’s)
We've got to be able to get and stack excellent players that have to compete every day to survive here. We still have quite a few players with pri madonna attitudes based on their HS highlights.

See...this is the problem. Just sticking in great players doesn't make your team good.

We have better players than MT....

I was negative on Gattis initially predominantly based upon

1. Feedback from my Mich buddy
2. His very limited resume of calling plays
3. Poor track record of developing QBs and WRs

I still put the bulk of blame on him

You combine the rash of injuries to key offensive starters and here we are.

I’ll go to my grave with the belief that great coaches can elevate their players in spite of talent, and can scheme around deficiencies.

Gattis is doing the opposite, scheming as if this teams’ weaknesses were a strength

Yet look at this thread and people are still crying about Gattis and missing the point that it's on the culture of players within the program—the losers needed to be flushed out and replaced by kids who buy in.

Dabo's full first year in Clemson was 2009, after taking over for Tommy Bowden during 2008 season.

9-5, 6-7, 10-4 (but WVU put up 70 in OB) before getting Venables and going 11-2, 11-2, 10-3 and then 14-1, losing the national title followed by 14-1 and winning it all in year eight.

Fans talking about Clemson's culture in Swinney's 14th full season—while not letting Cristobal get through half of year one, or crediting the culture he built in four years at Oregon.

Classic Canes....

These same “losers” fought for lame duck Manny to the end.

Team chemistry is a delicate thing. Calibrate it wrong and things can fall apart quickly. Mario is a good coach but he made some key errors. It has snowballed.

He has plenty of time to fix it but he has to be honest with himself.

Its not the only piece but it is part of what this program needs. We arent NFL U anymore. But when we were those guys loved success for their teammates just as much as their own in most cases.

A team filled with guys who fall in line with the practice of Mudita is a coaches dream. Most times they dont even know it...its just happening.

Not sure how good we'd be with TVD running that offense. All of Riley's QB's had something that TVD doesn't - a modicum of athleticism and, while a pass first mentality, they can all make plays with their legs.
