this is a low key important game

The moral of the story? Hold if necessary to prevent headhunting. Use any technique, legal or illegal, to protect this guy during the game. Get Mensah out of this game after a couple of series. He's the franchise. Nickel is too inexperienced to get us to the Promised Land.

We beat Savannah State 77-7. But it didn't matter.

These games have no benefit for Miami risky their players. its actually down right stupid.

I posted a thread over the summer echoing this very sentiment but heard crickets. The talent gap is widening. There’s greater risk for injuries to the FCS programs. FBS/FCS games have no place in the future of CFB if we’re heading to fewer seats at the table for major FBS programs. Sure, maybe a program like UConn will lose to Villanova or something every once in awhile (which wouldn’t be all that shocking), these FCS programs come in with the expectation of getting annihilated and the sadder part is we’re not even trying but somehow put up 77 in 3 quarters.

We ended 9-4 and yes, Morris started that Louisville game but you wouldn’t have known because the poor guy played so badly. Duke Johnson was lost after the FSU throttling. I mean that was the champ but we could have put up a better fight because looking back, the 2013 roster was actually very, very talented. Future NFL HOF type players? Nah, but plenty of future pro-bowlers and NFL starters on that roster at just about every position. Losing that game in Durham against Duke was inexcusable. Mr. Mark D and his defense led by future pro-bowler Denzel Perryman apparently couldn’t stop the mighty Blue Devils who probably had 2 draft picks the following year. One of the lesser talked about blunders of the 2010’s

Miami was definitely a paper champ that season, but the point is valid (about protecting your quarterback against scrubs.)

Barely escaped No. 12 Florida, who turned it over five times (and finished 4-8) and needed a late comeback to beat Wake Forest at home to stay undefeated (with wins over South Florida, Georgia Tech and a miracle comeback at North Carolina before that).

It set up No. 7 Miami against No. 1 Florida State, which had to be the most-lopsided top ten match-up in the series, as the Noles just flat-out rolled, 41-14 and proved the Canes didn't belong on the same field that night.

I hated that fugazi of a 2013 and the false hype from that win over the Gators.

According to Feliciano, Morris injured his Achilles (probably on that play).

Was that Duke Johnson’s first year or was that the game at the Doak in which he blew out his Achilles?

It might be worth mentioning that Savannah State was one of the worst FCS programs out of the 120 something FCS schools. They were so bad, they actually moved down to DII since we last played them. I think we played them another time when Diaz was HC. It was the same result.

At the time, sure, I would have absolutely called that 2013 team paper champs or fraudulent but I mentioned in another post how that roster was loaded with future NFL talent. Now when I say NFL talent I’m talking 53 man roster guys, starters, and 2 pro-bowlers (Perryman/LB, Linder/OL)I think a lot of people don’t fully understand how difficult it is to actually make an NFL roster, let alone start or become a multi-pro bowl type NFL player. By no means were we championship caliber, but not winning the putrid Coastal with that roster was CRIMINAL. Notable players off the top of my head who later played meaningful NFL snaps:

Denzel Perryman
Ladarius Gunter
Artie Burns
Rayshawn Jenkins
Jamal Carter
Chickolo
AQ Muhammad
Duke Johnson
Phillip Dorsett
Allen Hurns
Stacey Coley
Clive Walford
Gus Edward’s
Dion Bush
Every OL minus the center (Henderson, Feliciano, Henderson, Linder).

And there are probably more I’m missing. Honorable mention for Morris who was drafted and made a few 53 man rosters with a couple NFL teams. He’s the only guy to do that since Cam Ward. An 11 year gap. Kayaa never made a 53 roster despite being a very late draft pick.

This type of talent at every position warrants at least 10 wins. We haven’t had a middle LB like Perryman since. Actually, we haven’t had anything close to a Denzel Perryman at MLB as it’s a position we haven’t recruited well, even with Mario. Yes, the AG regime was that bad. There’s a reason that guy was never given another shot with another CFB program. I don’t think he wants to because he himself knows he’s not big time HC material.

And if this still doesn’t convince you of anything, look at what some of the Richt/Manny era players ended up doing in the NFL from 2017-2021. Outside Jalen Phillips and Greg Rous, a whole lot of nothing in a 5 year period.
