This defense is absolutely insane.

Excluding the one TD drive, Florida had:
41 plays on 10 drives totaling 61 yds

-0.715 EPA (explosive plays)

39 grade on offense

Florida had a pass blocking grade of 2.3 which is the worst grade ever by PFF.

Miami got pressure on 79% of drop backs by Florida.

Through 4 games Bain/Mesidor have combined for 41 pressures.

That one drive was odd. We got pushed a bit and when we went to tackle we didnt look good. Its like for the first time since that small spurt notre dame had we took our foot off the gas.

But that being said I mean we absolute punish people with the ball. Just like our OL it cant be fun getting hit by us late in the 3rd and into the 4th quarter. I love seeing DB's who arent getting owned both in coverage but also in tackling.

I gotta believe they were showing a unique look on their one good drive or doing something new as it was their first drive of the second half. Seems like we adjusted fine after
I'm actually very curious as to what exactly Florida was doing on that drive. They seemed to have found something or noticed a structural weakness in our defense. We seemed to adjust to it afterwards however which is a great sign. This defensive performance against the gator was dominant. What struck me was how well prepared we were on defense. The front 7 was absolutely nasty and the DBs were locking everything down. It seemed to me overall that the defense is beginning to gel together and get comfortable in this scheme. It also seems as though Corey Hetherman is getting a much better feel for what each player can/can't do and putting them in position to showcase their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses. I can't wait to see this defense play FSU and how we counter their potent rushing attack.

Think it was more UF came out in 12 and we stayed in nickel, not subbing a 3rd LBer in until the 4th & 2 that Lagway converted late in the drive. One of their TEs always ended up blocking (and winning) against someone in our secondary on that drive.

Other things on that drive, Mesidor had 2 bad reps on first run and TD run setting left edge. Blay had a bad series, surprised on rewatch that we didn't sub Scott in for him. Wes had his worst series of the game too. Some credit has to be given to UF. Their OL blocked great and so did their TEs on that drive.

I think it was them motioning wide receivers and snapping the ball when the receiver was in the backfield. D-Line wasn't shooting gaps as fast due to the possibility of the receiver getting the ball on the end around.

in his post game interview with DBJ, bain said they had some communications/alignment issues which they fixed when the came back to the sideline after that drive.

They ran some different motions that created unbalanced numbers on one side or the other, then took it outside that direction.

Malzahn will do that more effectively and throw some nasty counters at you too. Hard to completely stop, but about all they have in the bag beyond deep shots.

Ill reserve my decision until after FSU

We've seen this defense give up big plays against teams that play scramble ball like FSU does

That said, Castelanos, if its him, seems to be talking a lot of smack on Twitter about Miami
that's not him. parody account

I love what Hetherman is doing to get Bain 1v1 against the other teams RT which is usually the weaker pass blocker of the tackles
I also love what Hetherman does to move Bain around the DL and when he has Bain and Mesidor next to each other. He lines Bain up in a wide 9 tech as well which is also very effective. It's been an absolute pleasure to watch this defense under Hetherman thus far.
