However, cornerback Mackensie Alexander was offered a scholarship by Miami, albeit too late.

Alexander, considered by Clemson coaches to be the nation’s premier cover corner, is from Immokalee, the same high school as former Canes running back Edgerrin James. In fact, James urged Alexander to sign with Miami.

“I grew up watching Miami,” said Alexander, a redshirt sophomore who allowed just 11 completions among 40 passes thrown his way this season. “I loved Miami. But Al Golden and his staff … I’m in their back yard, and I didn’t get an offer. I had every offer in the country, and [Miami] didn’t offer me until I came to camp.

“To me, that was disrespectful.”

Alexander said he went to Miami’s camp to appease James.

“[Miami] had their top receiver there — I won’t say his name — but I locked everybody down. I had fun. I competed.

“It was crazy because the fans were there, and they were [yelling at the since-fired Golden], ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve got to offer him. You’re crazy!’ ”

Alexander said after he performed well at the camp, the offer finally came in from Golden.

“I thanked him for the offer,” Alexander said, “but I told him, ‘I won’t be coming to your school. I just wanted to show you I can play here, Coach.’

“I felt disrespected, and I never talked to him again.”

The top CB in the country, right there for the taking and Golden FINDS A WAY to ***** it up. Edge even had it all set up for us and Al still blew it. How could someone be so incompetent? Anyways, glad that loser has been vanquished from our program.

Can we move tf on from Golden? Jesus we have a great coach and a bright future with new coaches and stud recruits. Golden's gone and is literally about to be a new year so leave him in the past

Not until I'm done venting. I have to get it all out.

so i understand that people don't believe the amount of interceptions is important for a cb to be seen as lockdown. but has there ever been a cb taken in the first round who has never had a career int? bc mackensie alexander might do just that for the 2016 draft. i can't think of a single cb prospect who didn't have a interception and not many tackles. is he an example of that hype carry over from being a 5 star hs guy that we see with some prospects?

The Clemson bagman is all over that area of south florida. I'm not sure it would've mattered.

Pride. Thinking you are the smartest person in the room without even looking to see who else is there. Convinced your way is the only way. Putting how and why you win above winning itself. Al found his no-talent players in NJ at his camps. It MUST be so here.

There's a whole bunch of Shiite that Golden did in the way he operated that will only aggravate us at this point. We changed it by getting rid of him, even if belatedly. We need to move on from harping about that disaster and focus on what our new coach can do to bring us back.

A guy that made Miami offers 'meaningless' who either offers studs from the backyard late in the process or not at all. Fak me thank god Richt is here

I remember this **** like yesterday.... i used to drool all over him and Tim Williams *welp* good job Goldy Flakes

In case y'all are forgetting, Golden did the same thing with Shaq Quarterman. Had offers from Florida, Ohio St, Michigan St, Clemson, Michigan, Auburn, and didn't offer him till he went to camp. Then tried to play it off by saying "I thought we already had offered him"
