Third Scroggins?

Look, I've been known to argue some technicalities in my day, but this thread is setting a high bar for ridiculous arguments.

And, hey, nobody is 100% wrong. But let's think about this.

First, @3rdCane starts the thread off by speculating on the Silence of the Sportswriters, and then concluding that "he's hurt", not based upon his own eyewitness observations, but by the lack of mentions on various websites, which is normally the type of "evidence" that CIS tends to critique. And for poster like 3rdCane who would go on to argue the difference between "participating" and "FULLY participating", that's kinda rich, huh? After all, "he's hurt" suggests that a guy has a current injury AND NOT "he's coming off of surgery so the coaches are taking precautions to avoid re-injury". And "he's hurt" tends to cause depression spirals on CIS.

Then, @NicKane comes in with some accurate eyewitness information on Scroggins participating. Now, perhaps a person can object to the use of the word "fully". After all, there are a lot of players who do not "fully" participate, such as the quarterbacks and kickers and punters. Nobody is lining up Darian Mensah in a blocking drill opposite Pancake Huncho. Now, sure, sure, Scroggins is a defensive lineman. But some posters think in very binary terms. Either a player is a full-go or "he's hurt". But there are statuses that fall between those two extremes, in which Scroggins likely falls. I'm quite certain that the UM coaches will not put him in full pads if he is VERY likely to be reinjured. But Scroggins also needs conditioning, and to get back in the flow of footwork and taking snaps and all the other little things associated with his position. Double but, we don't play a difficult game until Clemson in October, thus there is no pressure to rush him back to full-go. You build up. You let him take some full-contact snaps next week. Then if he comes out OK, you give him more the next week. Maybe you give him 10-15 snaps against Stanford. Maybe more the next week.

We face the prospect of potentially playing a 16 or 17 game season. Guys are gonna get hurt or miss a half for targeting or skip some study halls. These things happen. But when someone starts a "he's hurt" thread based on sportswriters NOT mentioning 1 of 95 players, it tends to create fear and confusion.

So to complicate that with 6 pages of arguing over "participation" vs. "full participation" is not really helpful. Particularly when it looks like some of the fighting involves defensiveness over being criticized, compounded with vocabulary debates.

Settle down. Scroggins is working his way back from surgery. I only give a **** if he can play against Clemson.

“Full Participation”
He’s practicing in full uniform, with the rest of his teammates. You do with that as you will! but regardless, you were wrong and I was right. So take that crow and shove it down your throat sport!
