This shouldn't be understated.

The school tried to have the football team on the cheap, despite the fact much of the schools success in academic buildings came from football.

This country is football-crazy, and people also love to be associated with a winner. When you have a good football team, you get primetime games, which are 4 hour commercials for the school seen by millions of people. Add in the sports media keeping your name in the general conversation during the week, and you're generating a ton of exposure for the school, while penetrating into markets where you might not normally reach. It just makes good business sense to put a good product on the field. I'm glad we finally have a president who realizes and embraces this, instead of the arrogant Ewok.

Great news for South Florida and about time again the vibe is strong and the players deserve ++++props all the way around. In Tx you would be amazed of how much football brings in and I love Fl for doing the same.
