In their history, the service academies have scored some major upsets against teams with way more talent, in large part because of what you just mentioned. Mostly the Naval Academy.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Navy one of the teams that drove a stake though the heart of Mr. parade float with the “decided schematic advantage” Charlie Weis in his last year at ND.

My favorite Weis story is when he was OC at Florida. Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville had a player Weis was recruiting He showed up at the school unannounced, and the HC, who was also the VP, said he had meetings and invited him to watch practice that afternoon. He said he would be back. Coach kept looking for him during practice but never saw him. Finally had an assistant look around for him. They found him passed out in the drivers seat of his car in the parking lot. They started knocking and couldn't get him to wake up. They thought he died until somebody finally banged as loud as they could on the window and he woke up.
