A few years back, Miami caught some flak because we had to contact Umatilla (Florida) high school about their use of the split-U. Everything is fine now, but initially Umatilla got the notification letter and tried to humiliate UM for being such a big bad bully.

Should've just drove down to Coral Gables and punched that big bad bully right in his gotdamm nose

Switching high schools like your outfit wasn’t as popular at the time. Our rival was the patriots and being a dolphin fan that didn’t tickle my feathers either. The other school in our county at the time was sorry af.. bulldogs.. well until Grady Jarrett and Neville Hewitt went there together.

Is it Cross Keys? I know they used the spear logo back in the day. I'm not sure if that school even still exists.

I actually knew someone that worked for that district in Tulsa. She told me they paid the Miami $40k per year for the rights to use that logo. Now maybe she was lying but that’s what she said.

Yes, the key is licensing. As long as there is an agreement and even a MODEST payment, then our copyrights and trademarks are protected. If you don't take action to defend and license these things, then you lose them.

Was having an interesting conversation with some folks this weekend, apparently "Vintage" brand products have bought up a bunch of lapsed/undefended trademarks and copyrights. Including...Sebastian with a corncob pipe...
