The win-win for Miami, Notre Dame, playoff committee, tv networks, and ACC. Play-in game for playoffs.
Notre Dame always benefits by not being in a conference, so it doesn’t have to play a conference championship game. Miami got screwed by ACC rules so it misses the ACC championship. Both teams have a free weekend.
Committee knows it will be a viewed as a corrupt farce if it ignores head to head. So it tells Notre Dame “sorry, we don’t have a choice, if it comes down to it we have to pick Miami.” Miami reaches out to ND and offers a play-in game. Airs on ABC and NBC simultaneously. I will bet any amount of money that this game will break all viewership records. Everyone, even the most causal cfb fan, will tune into Catholics v Convicts part Deux. Winner makes the playoffs. Everyone makes boatloads of money. There is nothing preventing independent Notre Dame from setting this up and ACC gets to have the highest rated game ever, instead of missing the playoffs completely if Duke wins ACC championship.
