You guys know how much I got on Manny but even I know Manny is solely responsible for Richt's success his entire tenure here. I get on Manny because the guy has the potential to be an elite DC at Miami. I complained because I wanted to stop being gimmicky and just be the DC I know he can be. This thread isn't about Manny though, but this thread is about this year's defense and how it will be the best defense we've had since Sean Taylor was in the secondary.

Miami is now ranked #1 in total defense. #2 total defense against the power 5. #2 Against the Pass. #11 Against the run. (We still need to be a bit better against the run or at least QB runs). We're also #1 in 3rd down defense percentage. #1 in TFL (We lead by 20). #3 In Sacks. #3 In Takeaways. We give up 18.1 points a game. Every stat I felt was important to any defense is basically 11th or better and all of it will go to waste because of Richt and this offensive line.

UGA gave up 275 rushing yards against LSU and 36 points
Florida gave up 372 and 19 Points.
Miami gave up 294 yards of total offense against LSU and 26 points with LSU having good field position all game (7 drives starting at LSU's 40 or better).
But, here we are. 5-2 because of our offense. The saddening part is that it the HC who is DIRECTLY responsible for holding the team back offensively since he is the primary play caller.

Let's just hope some SEC school doesn't come calling with an offer Manny can't refuse or it's over.

The two stats that matter most (besides points, but that one is affected by field position):

Yards/play allowed (this is more about coordinating)
3rd down % defense (this is more about playcalling)

I’m still half-expecting the defense to fall apart at some point because of the positions they’re put it in. But, can’t argue with the production up to this point. This is with significant losses in two players I expected to be on this year’s defense: Malek Young and Ken Norton. Also, with perhaps the worst special teams play we’ve seen here in a long time.

Tip of the cap (so far).

Yeah it's inevitable the D at some point will fall off. If you continue to subject almost any D to situations where the offense is horrible and the special teams consistently puts you in bad field position.....yeah, it's due to fall apart.

But with the said Manny has brought the D a LONG WAY from where it was when he first got here. He still blitzes a little too much at times but where would we be without that D right now? The FSU game definitely would have been a loss.

We've watched the last 2 full seasons as the defense has improved and the offense has regressed. It's the story of this program right now.

Yeah. I'm kinda waiting for the f*ck it game where someone puts up 40 because the offense (and ST) is constantly ******** the defense.

If Blake James has any balls he would put Manny Diaz as coach in waiting status, other schools do it why can’t we?

can someone play the hello darkness my old friend song.............I need that on while I read this post.
