In 2000 we had a lot of talent on the OL and in recruits. What we have now is so much better. We will always be good enough at the other skill spots, and I have reasonable confidence we will be good enough on defense. So our ability to play in the CFB playoff every year for a bit, will likely always come down to the QB position. Good news about QB, if it’s all you are missing, you can always go in the portal. We certainly have recruited QB in a fairly pathetic way for 2.5 decades.

1. They're not directly next to each other, so it's not the most perfect visual comparison, but #55 is Breck Kolojay, he is a legit blue-chip offensive line prospect, he's about 6'5 and 310+ pounds, if not more. And he looks like a ******* TODDLER next to Jackson Cantwell. WTF is that kid?? My goodness. I guess you could say the same about Canon Pickett, who is right next to him, and he's probably 6'4 and well over 300? Cantwell could slide over a few feet and you literally couldn't even see a human being was behind him. What a ******* freak.

2. Dereon Coleman is an incredibly risky prospect. If Beck hits how we want him to hit this year, we will likely have a ton of portal options going forward after back to back years launching Cam and Beck into the draft, so it's not like we're putting all our eggs in his (very tiny) basket, but I'd feel a lot better taking a 2nd QB in this class who could cosplay as an adult. I've watched Coleman's film, I'm going to see him in person at Jones this fall, I think he's got a lot of talent and i know about his arm. But I'm a data guy........the amount of QBs at that size who have truly exceled at the major college football level is VERY small. Yes, I know he's standing between literal giants. But Bryce Young, for example, was REALLY small. And Coleman makes him look like Cam Newton. This kid is TINY. I study our QBs more than any other position as it is, but this is about as intrigued by a prospect as I can possibly be, because for the life of me I don't see how you play the position at a high NFL level in a program this massive at that size. But I'm sure hoping he's an outlier, as I'm sure the staff is. He looks like a mini-Jeff Thomas in that uniform.

Do you know anything about Coleman’s family? Is mom 5’9 or dad 6’2 does he have an older sibling that is larger? I’m grasping at straws hoping the kid hits a little growth spurt.

I think if we recruit a 2nd qb it would need to be a blue chip kid because I expect Coleman would dip. This late in the game I don’t think there is a better option left on the board.

If one was to criticize anything about Mario’s recruiting it might be qb takes. Wouldn’t mind trading Judd to Nc state for example. Thank god for the portal. Maybe the thought by Mario is to take high upside riskier qb takes knowing they can buy a top tier transfer and develop talent otherwise?

No clue. But he looks like his mom is Simone Biles and his dad is Kevin Hart.

Even though that's true(2.5 decades)! Last two QB recruits is a good start in the right direction. Everything else in your post I agree with!

Let's say everything goes exactly right and Beck has a great year, and works himself into the first round.

If that happens, Dawson is as good as gone. Last year he was interested in Rice. If he gets an offer somewhere he's taking it.

So.. Mario would have to hire an offensive coordinator and pull a QB from the portal. Oh and he'll need to get any NIL deal approved by the clearinghouse.

That right there is how we end up with Emory starting in 2026.

All of this is to say.. Nothing against Coleman, but I wish we had gone all out for Keisean Henderson when he was interested. I think he's worth the money.

Completely agree regarding Coleman. Cant deny his arm talent, quick release, etc. That stuff looks great in 7on7 tournaments. But he is EXTREMELY small. Who knows, he might pan out…but right now I’m on the fence.

Perhaps that’s the staff’s plan. We have Nickle in front of him. If Coleman is a hit once it’s his turn, then we’re good. Otherwise, we just go to portal.

If his height was even remotely a concern, the staff wouldn't pushed so hard for him
