THE most concerning thing is...

Capn' Obvious, here, reporting for duty!

We all want to return to being an elite team, of course. That is the stated goal of the coaching staff and school. My biggest concern is this - Elite coaches (including past Cane HC's) have both the vision and backbone to pull the trigger and do what is best for the entire team this year and moving forward. Schnelly started a Frosh against the #1 team in the country and we won. He also went with a Frosh in 83' and we started one of the great CFB dynasties.

I don't think there's anyone outside of having Richt as your last name, who now knows that rolling with Malik through Spring, Summer and Fall, instead of going with the future and preparing for that, was an enormous mistake. Mark gets paid $4mm a year to make those evaluations.

Cannot believe I'm saying this, but...even...

...Golden started a true frosh as a means to build for the future. Even Al understood that it is sometimes necessary.

The point is, until Sunday, as it relates to Mark, I was trying to reinterpret past actions, results and facts, believing that Mark coming to Miami was a re-start for us and him to get back to championship ways. It's not just that we lost on Sunday or that we weren't properly prepared in many facets of the game in his 3rd season and keeping his staff largely in tact, or many other things that are/were VERY concerning from Sunday's game...

No. The most glaring thing is that he could not evaluate Malik, evaluate the other QB's and make the bold but right decision moving forward, which probably should have been to prepare and start Jarren.

It sucks. I love Richt and he's a good ambassador for the program and the school. But, just like at UGA, we have championship expectations and the sad reality is finally sinking into my thick head, that Miami probably made a 4th bad HC hire in a row. And, since so many on here love hearing posters say it, I'll go ahead and do it again - I wanted Butch.

I agree Richt failed at evaluating and not moving on from Malik. Very similar how you have failed on your HC evaluation and not moving on from from Butch

Because Butch wouldn't have had us more prepared on Sunday, right? Because ST's under Butch would've continued being sloppy, right? Because our OL, 3 years into his regime, would continue to be soft, right? Because our star player on offense would explode at our starting QB because he was being enabled to continue starting, right? Because, under Butch, he would've made the same decision as Mark and stated Malik, right?

Just as you and many others are tired of hearing about Butch, we, who wanted Butch, are tired of folks buying their heads in the sand, making themselves think that we are better off without him. As I said in another thread, at this point because of his age and the way things have gone down, he is probably never being hired here again, but that doesn't take culpability away from the school or this current coaching staff to not get their crap together and act like professionals.

I think this line of criticism is really misguided. Criticizing Richt for not developing his QBs, crooting a better one than Rosier, or being a bad playcaller is fair game, but criticizing him for starting Rosier requires a few speculative assumptions:

(1) The backups are better than Rosier.

Perry was suspended and rumors seem to suggest that he's not hardest worker. Do you think Weldon, in his first start, would have reasonably been better than Rosier? How about true freshmans Jarren Williams? It could very well be that Rosier, right now, is our best option, which is scary, but definitely possible.

(2) It was clear in camp that the backups were as good or better than Rosier

I don't want to misattribute views to @DMoney, but he, other insiders, and our coaching staff clearly felt that Rosier performed the best in camp. I usually don't agree with the common criticism of internet fans from coaches that we don't know what we're talking about, but I think in this case it applies. Traditionally, camp play and scrimmages are not the most reliable indicators of game performance, especially for the QB position. E.g. Look at Darnold at USC.

Hindsight is 20/20. I'm not a Richt homer, but I think he made the right call starting Rosier. He can only go by what he saw in camp. I'll judge Richt's competence by how he responds to our QB situation going forward. I don't think he'll stick with Rosier if he continues to play like how he day 2 days ago.

I appreciate your opposing view and the classy and logical way you've explained your thinking. What you did is how we all need to handle differing with someone's opinion on the board and not get into childish name calling and insults. Thank for keeping it classy.

OK, here's where you're wrong...

1st, Mark and all other observers have already seen and said that Jarren is talented and the heir apparent at some point. Mark's job is to evaluate not only who is doing a terrific job in practice, but also look at game footage, time spent with the players and 3 decades of coaching QB's to factor in. Mark should have realized that not only is Malik not going to win us any championships, but he is a 5th year senior and by starting him, we are not only eliminating ourselves from winning championships, but also from building for next year and the year after that.

Like I mentioned in the OP, it's Mark's multi-million dollar job to draw from 3 decades of coaching QB's and reconcile that with the overall goals and vision of the program. Sorry, but crapping the bed against LSU and blowing out the next 3 opponents doesn't convince anyone that this isn't the biggest coaching mistake Mark has made since he's been here.

Compound that with how undisciplined and sloppy the rest of the team is and ****, man. It's not good.

Thought it was going to be that our HC and OC doesn't know what down it is.

What about NOT SUSPENDING YOUR BEST QB WHEN YOU HAVE DOZIER AS THE STARTER FOR THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR???? Who the **** though that was a good idea. Everyother school bends over backwards to not suspend their players and here is Richt suspending players for nothing.
