The Lost Plays of Richtlantis

Under Center Play Action Pass Roll out. (The DE was completely lost - Njoku scored)

Every time I see this play I automatically think of Dorsey to Shockey.

Unbelievable that Pastor Richt hasn't incorporated this play more often with the stable of talented TE at his disposal.
NO, imma still continue to run up the middle for 1st and 2nd down then when its third & long either run up the middle again or have all of our wr run verticals like a fuxking idiot. I swear that is wat CMR is thinking while he is on the sideline.

Wow don't know how I missed this thread. Quality stuff and 100% spot on.

Our under center game is weak as fvck.

I agree with OP...Miami traditionally and successfully is a PRO style offensive attack. The spread, read option b.s is not our game, does not fit the culture nor attitude of a Canes team IMO. We are NFL U, not gimmick spread you around b.s IMO which leaves the players unprepared for the pros from the quarterback down. (not to say some don't transition well from those respective offensive styles)

Since he's not giving up play calling duties, our only hope is that he has a Walter White moment, ******* snaps and starts drawing up some **** that would make Kliff Kingsbury's pants blush.

I would run a pro style attack with a dab of read option/RPO.

We were able to pound weaker teams with a pro style offense.

and with talented teams we had a bit more success with RPO/Read option stuff.

Honestly, I just want to see different formations. We should not run the same formation every game. We need to mix things ups with shotgun and under center formations.

The last two plays shown in the OP are the ones many of us were screaming for in the UVA game chat. It was beyond obvious that the QB read option was available to our offense all day against UVA, yet no QB ran it until the last offensive drive.....which led to a TD.

I had no problem with Richt pulling Perry. My issue (and I noted this in real time in the game chat) is that Richt asked Rosier to come in and toss the ball around 25 times and execute Perry's game plan. He needed to run screens, misdirection run plays and the QB/RB read option with Rosier making the call. Those are the plays Rosier is good at.

I Agree man, a dab for some flavor wouldn't hurt. But the fact we can't remember the last time a QB took a snap under center and threw the ball is just alarming. How can the only play in the I formation we have is a fb dive in short yardage? We know how predictable that is and was in those situations now. Ei. no fake fb dive and pitch to the outside? PA pass to TE? lol basic variants...kinda feel crazy repeating all the obvious woes

It mind boggling what we did for Kaaya but don't do now with the same person calling plays.

I actually thought that once we could bring a more mobile QB online, it would make what we were doing with Kaaya even more effective. The way the offense was playing the last near-half of 2016 was something to build on. Yet for whatever reason, not only did we not build upon that, we stopped doing what was working, and now it seems the offense is stuck in a vice grip.

I understand that if the offensive line is getting consistently blown up by the defense, you're not gonna be able to run the ball, no matter what running plays you can draw up. However, it would then seem to me that you need to try to find a way to scheme around that, to at least try to loosen the D up to the point where some of those runs start working. Where's the tempo? We used to run it a couple times a game with Kaaya, we even ran it with Malik last year at times. Where are the swing passes and WR screens? I'm no offensive guru, but I swear I saw UVA defensive backs playing well off our receivers yet again - that's easy money! Why are we not taking those throws for an easy 5 yards (and maybe more)? Get the defense off balance with the dink and dunk game, THEN pop in a few runs. Get the DBs creeping up, then you hit on the verts. Easy basic stuff!

Richt needs to do this and Richt needs to do that. Look, we can make these threads all day until we are blue in the face. The university isn't going to care what a bunch of scrubs say on a message board about the offense. Let me give you some advice, stop getting worked up and getting your panties in a bunch.

I actually forgot we called those plays in year one and the fact that don’t call them now doesn’t make any sense.

I was thinking about this yesterday, before I even read this post. I always say, what happened to the plays Richt called at FSU in the 1990s, but then I thought about it more and realized that ****, I would take the plays from 2016 that he used to call with Kaaya. It seemed like a good foundation at the time, and by the end of the season, that offense was really getting going. What happened? Why did he not only not build on what he was doing in 2016, but really kind of regress into a shell?

The qb position. Rosier is terrible so Richt probably dumbed things down for him and he doesn’t trust Perry.
