Richt needs to hire a OC (because that hasn't been said 8 billion times - which is true) but seriously Richt needs to back to running his pro style offense that he ran for Kaaya in 2016. Right now we're running this halfhearted read option offense that Richt isn't good at running. Richt is trying to seem hip and cool with this crapshoot he thinks is a legitimate read option offense.

If Richt is going to run an ancient offensive scheme can he at least run it like it was meant to be ran? I feel like Richt is, poorly, trying to blend his old school scheme with the new school stuff and quite frankly the combination is making offensive vomit.

In this thread, I want to talk about plays we did, that worked, that we haven't seen mainly since 2016. Some of these plays I don't understand for the life of me why we don't run them anymore. We legitimately have 3 running plays, not even kidding. Read options and FB dives.

Honestly, I think every ACC coach has our plays on a sticky note up on their refrigerator.

Some plays I think we need to start running again. These are mostly running plays because our running plays need to diversify BIG TIME. We need to mix up our formations between Shotgun/Read Option runs and Under center hand-offs. Even if it just to give the defense a different look because it so obvious to any who is watching that the defense obviously knows what going to happen because we NEVER switch up formations like we did in 2016.

Stretch Hand-off out of the Pistol.

Under Center I formation stretch hand-off.

Under Center Single back formation hand-off.

Under Center I Formation Dive/Power hand-off.

Under Center Single Back Stretch hand-off

Under Center Play Action Pass Roll out. (The DE was completely lost - Njoku scored)

Wildcat with Dallas

Fake WR pitch misdirection hand-off to the RB

THIS version of the QB draw. Now someone may say what is different about this QB draw? It out of a simple shotgun look. Look at how the RB who runs to the flats draws the LB away from the play just enough and opens up a huge hole. The way we run QB draws now are out of 5 wide looks but it so predictable because we don't pass out of the 5 wide so it always going to be a draw.

You did a lot of excellent work; good job. Don't have the x's and o's background to intelligently comment, but sounds good. We (Canes' staff I mean) do have professionals (besides the Richts) paid to figure out some of these things; I hope some (or one of them) occasionally reviews stuff at CIS for actual constructive ideas, not just the bashing... who daF knows?

He just needs to utilize the weapons he has better it’s that simple, quit calling and using plays that don’t work. There is no excuse of why Jeff Thomas and Brevin Jordan aren’t fed the ball, does he not see how explosive those 2 are at their respective positions?

There is simply no flow, no logic, to our offense. Keep getting into 3rd and long situations by stubbornly deciding to repeat the same delayed handoff into the middle of our weak O-line, then try to convert a 3rd and 7 by throwing a low-percentage 25 yard out near the sideline. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I was thinking about this yesterday, before I even read this post. I always say, what happened to the plays Richt called at FSU in the 1990s, but then I thought about it more and realized that ****, I would take the plays from 2016 that he used to call with Kaaya. It seemed like a good foundation at the time, and by the end of the season, that offense was really getting going. What happened? Why did he not only not build on what he was doing in 2016, but really kind of regress into a shell?

Yeah, I never understood his change in the offense. Especially with Kaaya at the time. Everyone gets on Kaaya's case, but his last year here Richt changed the offense to something that doesn't suit a traditional pocket passer like Kaaya at all. Now that we have mobile QBs, we're seeing that the system doesn't even work when the QB can run. It's just a poorly-designed, predictable offense that is dependent upon low-percentage success plays and doesn't take full advantage of the amazing skill we have at WR and RB.

The stretch handoff, reverse roll out pass to a wide open TE in the flat...
ahhh, good times.

It's really really really simple.....look at those clips and look at the oline play. Especially all of those plays against UVA in 2016. our OL looked NOTHING like that this past Saturday. I never, ever, ever, ever, ever, thought i'd be clamoring for Alex Gall to be back at C for us

Maybe it’s also because he doesn’t trust the QBs to make the reads/throws

For all the crap given to Kaaya he had a good enough arm and was smart enough to read defenses.

Rosier doesn’t have an accurate arm
Perry from all accounts I’ve heard from pagers here can’t read a defense to save his life

Richt better hope Jarren Eilliams is the goods I guess

Those two should be lining up all over the field creating mismatches. Coming out of bunch formations, motions, etc. But stubborn Richt lines up in the same 3 formations with same players in the same position on the field every down. Our offense is so lazy like they really don't put any thought into it.

But he sure trusts his QBs to heave the ball downfield, or 40 yards across the field.

If he trusts the qb to make those throws, and he does, why he can’t a short passing game work?

It's mind boggling that a HC/OC who favors conservatism and tried-and-true play-calling would abandon those plays.

That PA TE rollout would have scored against UVA on either 3rd or 4th and short.

Long time first time...... Great work here with the former clips.. I have wondered as well what happened to the old offense. We were rolling at the end of year one with Kayaa...I have seen better offense from high school teams. This offense is so boring and useless regardless of who is on the OL or QB.

There are serious issues with Richt, his son and Brown as the co OC. these guys are killing us.

Just put in Perry and start using the quick short passing game. He can make a quick one read and deliver a bullet to our shifty wr on the run.. Just get them the ball quick and let them work.

Every time I see this play I automatically think of Dorsey to Shockey.

Unbelievable that Pastor Richt hasn't incorporated this play more often with the stable of talented TE at his disposal.

Maybe the short passing game wasn’t around 30 years ago so his offensive books don’t include those concepts
