This is what I envisioned when I went nuts for this guy for all those years, and then especially when we knew we were firing Manny. This is the only move, honestly.
I don't know if he ever wins a natty. It's really hard to do. But this dude just raises the floor of your program so much. I was at the Alabama game in 2021. It was one of the most defeated I've ever felt as a fan. Not quite 48-0 against UVA in the last game at the OB (which i was there for that as well), but it was different because I just kept saying to myself, we have ZERO business even being in the same building as these dudes. Vince Lombardi, Nick Saban, and Bill Walsh lose that game by 30 points. We were so far behind the elites in terms of basically everything, but most importantly talent acquisition, that it was genuinely sickening.
I knew, for a **** fact, that this dude might not win all those games going forward were he to ever get the chance to coach here, but at the absolute minimum, we'd compete. We'd look like we belonged with them. And we finally do.
I'm going to enjoy the **** out of this season, no matter what happens. This has always been a rapidly changing sport, and these days, it's slammed into hyperspeed. But we just physically beat up our 3 biggest rivals, and it's early October. We don't hang banners for that, no doubt. This is Miami, the standard is much bigger than just pushing fsu and UiF's noses into piles of ****, but **** it does feel good to go into games knowing you've got a really good football team again.
Last year was the best team we've had in 20 years. This year's team is better, full stop. At a minimum, I appreciate Mario's been able to do that for us. Now go win the whole ******* thing.
