The Heartbreaks In Recruiting That Came Back To Haunt Golden

Anthony Chickillo was the No. 3 DE in the nation and No. 44 overall player

Chickillo showed promise as a freshman, then we told him to gain 100 lbs.

He showed tremendous promise as a Freshman CAA...but then we tricked off his career here. It still boggles my mind how Chick went from being an UA all-star game MVP, to a 5 sack freshman season, to getting fat, out-of-shape and told to hold position, not rush. This staff is full of straight F*ckeries. We could have the No. 1 class in 2012, 2013, and 2014 and we still would win only 7-8 games per year. We have wasted true talent here. He has used night games as an excuse, day games as an excuse, student classes as an excuse, the cloud as an excuse, family health as an excuse, teams having bye-weeks before playing us as an excuse.....I mean, aren't excuses supposed to be the tools of incompetence, used to build monuments of nothingness, and those who SPECIALIZE IN THEM SELDOM ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING??????? Well I guess we have our answer.

Chick should be happy he gained 60 pounds, now he's actually going to have an actual career in the NFL as a 5 technique. Chick was never some explosive beast like Clowney, the fact that you look at a HS All Star game to attempt to show that means nothing.

Look at how Chick never got blown off the line, and compare him to someone like Wyche who outweighs him by 50 pounds and gets pushed off like hes 100 pounds. The fact is Chick is the only one who actually did a good job on the line.

Just go check this out without any insults or some sort of slu thrown somewhere. Go check out Alabama's defense, a defense everyone would love to have. Now go to their DLine stats, look who the leading sack leader is on the DL, isn't so pretty right? The fact is Florida is suppose to have super duper athletic LBs right? Why not revolve your defense around those LBs? People always complained about McCord droppng into coverage, but guess what? That's what he'll also be doing on sundays. He won't be constantly rushing at the passer like a chicken without a head

check it out.....like i said on a recruiting board, sacks...that's one thing...but this team has avg 1 qb pressure per game and went 3 games this season w/o a qb sack or hit. Go back and look at those stats from Bama and tell me how many qb pressures have been applied by that front four and how many qb hits have been applied by that front four. I'll wait....

Front four?

You mean front 3 or are you now considering one of the olbs part of the 4 DL?

That's the difference between us and Bama, we only have 1 guy who put pressure on the QB (Chick), Wyche got blown apart cus apparently that fat is keeping him off balance, Moten is a freshman along with Jenkins.

The point of the 3 DL in our defense is not get pressure on the QB, yes it is obviously helpful when they can, but it is the LBs jobs. You know Perryman managed to get into the backfield the times he did? That's the DL doing their job correctly along with Perryman doing his job correctly.

That's the position coaches job along with Golden to have the boys be ready to work off one another. For example against FSU when Dalvin Cook ran for two huge runs, the DL did an excellent job engaging their blockers for Kirby to clean up Cook at the LOS but guess what Kirby whiffs on a tackle. Looking at that play it seems like it was an awful playcall or whatnot but in reality the call was correct but Kirby just missed.

That's why when the players say we have to execute they are correct, however to argue that point the coaches themselves have to HELP those same players execute. This is why I personally think Hurlie Brown needs to stop coaching the LBs, move to DB coach, and get rid of Williams and Jethro.

this talent discussion is moot.

at our own campus, there's a coach who takes a MUCH less talented team to a conference title. in a much tougher conference!!!

ACC basketball >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ACC football.

we also lose to teams who have recruited worse than us.

No one is saying that we shouldn't have won 10 games this year. But even if Golden hadn't ****ed up royally and we HAD won 10 games, this team wouldn't have been in the playoff discussion. Not a Top 10 type of team, even we had maxed out. Add in all those guys we missed, or even half of them, and all of a sudden it looks a lot better...not to mention we would be stocked far better for the next coach.

P
Then don't bring it up... A rumor that presents this kid as a racists is nothing to bring up unless you know its true.... You don't just throw around the word "racist" or imply anything regarding it unless you kno its true... There were only 2 schools willing to give Teddy a legitimate shot at qb and that was UM and Louisville... Even when Golden came he wasn't serious about it... He was after prospects like Gary Nova, Jake Ruddock and some kid named McCade... There were fans who didn't want Teddy here... The qb rankings were a joke that year by having listed as the number 1 dual threat and Driskel as the number 1 pocket passer... Even when LSU was interested they were hinting a potential change to wr or safety becuse they felt confident with Mattenberger, who it took 5 years to be good.

Golden didn't take TBW seriously? C'mon guy. Golden got hired Dec 12th. TBW committed to UL Dec 20th. If anything TBW wasn't giving UM a sniff any longer. Golden wasn't even allowed to contact TBW during those times.

Of course he went after Nova,Ruddok, and Brisset, you expect him to not have back up plans.

And it is a FACT, which I know for 100% that Shannon promised Teddy that he would be the only QB in that class, so don't say RS was "recruiting" Brisset because that is a lie. Brisset himself even said Shannon never recruited him.

It was known throughout that recruiting cycle that we were only going to take one qb and Teddy was it... Early in the recruitment then we went after B Miller, M. Williams at UNC, Tanne McCoy at Wisky and Brisset, after looking into those players that staff thought Teddy was the only player deserving of an offer... You don't just take players to take them... We're witnessing the flaws of that method now... It turns out that the prior staff was right because Teddy was/is a better prospect than all of those qbs (Miller not being a fit)...

Once Teddy de-committed it was mentioned among news articles that the new staff and other UM insiders weren't too high on him and compared him to Jacory... We were even talking about preferring a pro-style qb, yet we were bringing in spread qbs... Teddy did speak with Golden but he didn't feel comfortable... He wasn't the sole reason why went to UL but it isn't anything to be ignored...

And thats what made Shannon a complete MORON. The only scholarship QBs were Harris and Morris. One of them is a Senior. Are you going to honestly tell me you're going into a season with 3 QBs if Teddy stuck? Please answer that question with a simple yes or no

And post like is is what make you look like a complete moron. When Coker took over from one of the greatest talent evaluators ever he had 2 qb's...Dorsey and crudup. Cracks me up when kids come on here acting like they know chit when they don't. Golden had two perfectly capable qbs when he took over. You look dumb as *** complainting about two qbs who are in the top 3 ever at miami stats wise iirc who could have been better with better coaching.

Had Dorsey gotten hurt then what? Would you have made the dumb *** claim that Butch davis was an idiot ? Smh. Dam..just dumb. Even if you pay attention to cfb there is an example of this at the school you supposedly follow and you can't even relate to that.

The 2001-2002 team had the following QBS:

Dorsey
Crudup
Mark Guillon
Buck Orteiga - yes before he was moved to TE he was indeed recruited as a QB

Please stop talking now

Edit*also had some walk on i never heard

You left out his first gigantic failure, Teddy Bridgewater. A coach worth an ounce of **** would have reeled him in. Instead he committed Louisville a couple of days after meeting Al. Everyone should have known right there that Al wasn't cut out for this.

Blame Shannon for not getting Brisset, Shannon promised Teddy he'd be the only the QB in the class

What do you expect Brisset to do when no one from Miami was recruiting him until the last few weeks of the recruiting cycle

Silly post. Brisset sucks and is a non factor. Why are you even mentioning him? it was a *** up on Goldens part plain and simple. No one else to blame but his own sorry ***. You act like brisset went somewhere else and became an as. Smh.
You're an idiot.

And I wonder how this board would have reacted if we did not have any legit QBs when Williams/Olsen went down and we had to rely on a guy like Spencer friggin Whipple

This place amazes me sometimes.

Any avid Golden hater and Shannon supporter would agree carrying TWO QBs only on a roster is borderline mental retardation

He's had his fair share of misses but his on field production as a coach is the problem. He's had plenty of talent to work with. Even reeling those kids in wouldn't mask Goldens warts as a gameday (like WINS) coach. We'd still be a perennial 2-3 loss team even with those kids.

yeah those were all massive fails but with this fat **** you gotta wonder how much better we'd be, maybe a seven win team? maybe 3rd in the coastal?

So in other words it's not Al's fault he can't win b/c he sucks at half of his job (recruiting).

But also, it's not his fault that he sucks at recruiting?

Collegefootball head coaching is a fairly straight forward job. Hire a staff and run the show from a football standpoint, and convince players to come play for you. This isn't the NFL where the HC might get a pass b/c his GM didn't get him talent. It's ON AL to get the talent. It's ON AL to develop that talent. TCU doesnt have a single Dalvin Cook like prospect on their team and they are the #3 team in the country.

Ban this piece of garbage "dec 2014 join date" obvious Golden/BOT/James shill.

Your last paragraph says a lot.

SFla is filled with quick DL and LBs. SFla is not filled with massive NTs to occupy space. So what do we do? Recruit against the most fertile ground in the nation. You know what else it's filled with? cBs who like to get up in your grill and challenge WRs. What do we do? Play soft zone coverage and play away from our CBs strengths.

It's mind boggling the defensive scheme we run considering where we are located. Bama isn't a comparison because they can recruit nationally and get the massive DL you need in this D. Looking at our 4 years of recruiting under Golden, it's pretty clear we can not.

It's a **** shame what we are going to do to Chad Thomas

Huh? How is Crudup, Gullon and Ortega different from Morris, Highsmith, Whipple and Teddy coming in? Brisset would have transferred if he came in anyway... He left a school where he got beat... He wasn't better than Harris, Morris or Teddy... You don't just hand out schollys just to do it...

Brisset wasn't better than Harris or Morris?

2300 yards, 22 TDS, 5 INTS, another 500 on the ground with another 4 TDs all on a team without the weapons we would have had

You bring in talented guys to compete and push other players

He transferre because he knew he wouldn't have a legit chance to start. Took Muschamp 3.75 years to realize Driskell wasn't very good

Jacory wasn't pushed at all up until his Senior year, guy knew he was going to be the starter no matter what he did
