The big boyz of College are miles ahead.

Do you feel like we are making those incremental steps? This is the longest process in the world it seems, how many years have we been at it, lol..

As soon as we "fix" those things other holes will spring open, rinse repeat
mixed feelings. i am giving manny another year before i judge. i don't expect to win a championship next year but they better be more solid.

No, unc would have won it. We would have both had two conference losses and they murdered us head to head

I don't understand how people would consider ND a conference L in a normal year. Are they in the conference for football? If this was a normal year (i.e. ND is not in the ACC) then...

1. UNC would have in conference Ls to UVA and FSU. Losing to ND would have NO impact on the Coastal since ND isn't even in the ACC.

2. Miami would have in conference Ls to Clemson and UNC.

3. UNC would have the head-to-head advantage.

You don't get a free out on the highest paid coach in your programs history and turn around and hire Manny if your serious about winning.

We were serious. Serious about wasting money. That is why we had to pay Temple a $4-million buyout for Diaz’s 18-day dalliance.

Let’s contrast the statement put out by Texas this morning:

“With our football season coming to a close, our vice president and athletics director, Chris Del Conte, has evaluated the UT program’s strengths and weaknesses and where the program is relative to our goals. While we have made measured progress during the past several years under Tom Herman’s leadership, Chris has recommended to the university president, Jay Hartzell, that UT make a coaching change to get us on track to achieving our ambitious goals. President Hartzell and the chair of our Board of Regents, Kevin Eltife, concur with this recommendation and have approved the change. We thank Coach Herman for his service and dedication to our student-athletes, our program and our university.”

See: start with goals and expectations. Then evaluate progress objectively. Then AD makes a recommendation to President and President and Chairman of Board approve and support the decision.

The person who sounds like he doesn’t know anything about organizational decision making is QP here. Bunch of blah blah to obfuscate the obvious lack of commitment by UM to the program.

Texas cares about winning, and they're willing to do what it takes. Miami is just Suntan U.

The University of Texas is better than Miami at EVERYTHING. Better at football, and they leave Miami in the dust academically. Someone with a degree from Texas gets a job over someone from Miami 10 times out of 10. And Texas is doing interesting research, whereas Miami.... the best you can say about them is they're doing some kind of study on manatees or some ****. UT is internationally respected, Miami is seen worldwide as "Suntan U."

Texas is trending up. Miami is trending down. And the reason for that? One school has a BOT and President who want to be great and are willing to learn from their mistakes and do what it takes to reach their goals. The other school (Miami) is run by incompetent fools who do nothing but lose all the time at everything.

I think you're confusing two things. You can have an athletic department that doesn't morally bankrupt the University. For the University of Miami to win again they don't have to become a jock school. It's a five time national championship football program that over the past 15 years has hired a first time head coach twice. That's just mismanagement, it's not because it conflicts with the mission of the University. By all accounts Lashlee gets paid well and so does Manny so money is rarely an issue. I think more of an issue is how the athletic department is run. Sometimes the BOT has a say, other times the AD acts independently that's what our issue is, IMO. Golden firing was accelerated by the board, the Manny hiring was done without the board.

The kind of program out "Fans" want would require us being a so called jock school. They want Alabama level dedication from the University, which is an all in, do whatever it takes to win mentality. This school isn't doing that, because our boosters aren't that way. It's not an accident that few of our peer institutions even bother with big time college football, the corruption and nonsense has been deemed pointless by a lot of very intelligent, successful leaders....

I think you overrate what this job is, and wrongfully assume that experienced, talented coaches are knocking down the door. You forget, Howard was a first time collegiate HC, Butch was a first time collegiate HC. Jimmy had been a decent coach at Oklahoma State, but he wasn't some super hot commodity. It's not that we've hired first time HCs, it's that we've hired THE WRONG FIRST TIME HCs. A lot of us on this board LOVED Lincoln Riley when he was an OC at places like East Carolina, you could see that he had a shot at being a fine HC. Ryan Day is a hot commodity, guy has shown himself to be an inspired hire. The problem is that Miami has leaders(IE Blake James) that care more the politically acceptable move, than by reaching out for a guy that is a little ahead of the curve. Miami could have made a move for a young, up and coming offensive mind or midmajor guy after Richt left, James immediately reached out for someone that most people were shocked received the Temple job. Why?

I don’t assume that experienced coaches knock on our door. These days it’s a lot easier to find connected assistants to your point he’s just not one of them

Watching Bama earlier, and now Clemson and Ohio State.

These college teams are flicking waaay more advanced.

Miles better athletes. Organized. Solid.

It takes big money to even fluck with these machines.
All these teams have held TOP 10 recruiting classes for the last decade. So I agree with you.

Those three teams are miles ahead of every other team in college football.
