I am a resident physician in my last year of training, and have recently attended several interviews for a sports medicine fellowship. I'd like to one day take over as team physician for the canes, but that's beside the point. Last week I interviewed at Baton Rouge general hospital, which is closely tied to the LSU football team. towards the end of our interview day, I was taken to an informal meeting with a few "diehard tigers fans" who had ties with the hospital and team (biiiig boosters). In an off the record chat, they said they took care of their sports physicians, and wouldn't want us to worry about finances while caring for the athletes. Long story short, all student loans paid off for us ($200k+), and incentives based on results that nearly tripled our hospital salary. You want to know how committed certain schools are to their teams, here's a taste.

I don't need any more reason to dislike the admin and the way things are run here.

Thanks for the story though. Congratulations and good luck. I hope you find a job you like brotha. God Bless.

Good admins attract or bring in big donors. That's a huge job of theirs. We have a weak booster / donor system. It absolutely does.l have to do with admin.

most of the alumni i know never give any money back. thats one of the big issues we have along w the small alumni base compared to gigantic state schools. we need to start opening up the bank for UM and hopefully the bOT figures out how to spend it wisely on the team

Why would you give money back? You have to trust that they will spend it right and you will see a return on it. Our athletics have deteriorated. Again, all goes back to the athletic department and its leaders.
