The “defense wasn’t bad cause we gave up less than 300 yards” narrative

I keep seeing the manny defenders trot out this narrative. Look, LSU had a short field due to bad punting the entire night, which means the defense gave up nearly 300 yards, defending only half the field the entire night (less opportunity to gain more yards).

Plus LSU took the air out of the ball and went conservative once they got the large lead. Case in point, they took the air out of the ball up 27-3 going into the half with nearly 2 min left. They went victory formation.

Context is needed, here. The defense was bad too. LSU could’ve easily put up nearly 500 yards had they been more aggressive in the 2nd half, even with a subpar QB.

fans have come around on Diaz being a joke, except for the few really dug in folks who fantasized about having a “guy from the neighborhood” HC here. they will not give in till the very end.

Maybe if the fan base reacted to his hiring like Tenn did Schiano (which we should have given his abysmal track record), he wouldnt be here corching the D.

Instead most people heard “4-3” and “aggressive” and a last name Diaz and were head over heels.

Dont say I didnt warn ya’llz

Agreed. Manny continues to get a free pass simply because the defense is less awful than the offense. They still can’t get off the field on 3rd down and they still leave the middle of the field unprotected.
