Te’Cory Couch Vs Pitt (video)

Had a very Malek Young type of day, though Malek was a little sturdier. These are the CBs we've somehow de-emphasized because of our strange philosophy to overvalue [presumed] "tackling" or the perception cover guys can't tackle. If a CB with electric feet is at least willing to tackle, he might be better in our D than some of the bigger corners who tackle, but can't get there or get toasted in coverage. Our evaluations here have been beyond strange. Couch was a good one. We need more.

I've always been a proponent of good cover guys with good hips that are WILLING to tackle.

It used to be that anyone over 6' struggled to have these attributes - which I'm ok with.

tackling is 80% "want to", and 20% a combination of technique and strength.

if a player has the first part down, the latter part will get there.

In this years class kid i coach is EXACTLY like Couch but is committed to FSU.

Give me those sticky cover guys all day. I think we need 2 of those types in this class. 1 a juco/transfer and 1 high schooler.

Couch is progressing ahead of schedule.

He's our best coverage corner in this weird defensive scheme.
This defensive scheme IS STRAIGHT BASURA! How many times do you see a SLOT wr with the S 10 yards back. I'm like Baker has been doing this for a year and half now. What the **** is wrong with him. This team is just frustrating, I just want us to play cleaner games. More big plays, defense more fundamentally sound. We leave guys wide open and better teams will exploit us.

Dunson seems to be in the same mold. He did a real nice job shedding the block on the fake punt, saved a sure first down.

I remember you and I having differing opinions on Malek as a freshman. I was hard on him, but only bc I thought he wasn’t ready for the amount of snaps he was getting. In general, mid-October is right around the time I am comfortable putting freshman out there. Hopefullly the youth movement we saw this week is the beginning of things to come.
