This penalty is by far the worst thing that has happened to college football in a very long time.
Not only is the penalty a game changer but it could very well be a season changing penalty as well. It's only a matter of time before this subjective *** rule affects a natty . It's literally ruining the game these days and the rule must be modified asap. We lost Bandy right away last week to the weakest ever game altering targeting call ever called. Tonight this Samford squad was giving fsu all they could handle right up until the moment the refs called targeting on Samfords best defensive player. Dude was destroying the noles and one flag later throw in a huge 15 yard penalty, and accused player gets ejected. Really? You would think the guy was pile driving Terry Bradshaw into the turf the way they penalize these guys.
You're never going to stop helmets from hitting another helmet in this game. This rule is a joke and if they don't fix this rediculous rule it's going to start affecting the popularity of the sport down the line. Just look at what's happened to the popularity of the NFL with all of their so called " safety rules" People are tuning out and if the NCAA doesn't get a handle on this they should expect the same kind of results as the NFL.
It's bad enough we have to put up with phantom pass interference calls but now we have this subjective bull**** rule to deal with as well. Frustrating to say the least.

Go Canes!!!!!

Should make it a 15 yd penalty and one of the two 'unsportsmanlike' fouls that could eject you from a game.

One strike and you're out is bull****.

Theoretically, you could kick a guy in the crotch and not get ejected.

By the way, if you don't call it on the field, I don't think you should be allowed to go to the replay and call it after. They don't do that for holding, pass interferance or any other penalty. Replays should be confirmation, not a tool to hunt for penalties.

Do it once, 15 and a warning

Second time, ejection

It’s pretty ******* simple...no reason a god**** penalty should decide the outcome of a game (See 2018 LSU game)

OP is right. Just another way biased/paid refs can determine the outcome of games.

Not trying to deduct from the effect that our team playing like shìt had on us losing the game vs LSU, but I swear it seems like refs everywhere have an eternal "fùck the U" agenda. When will it end?

+1 trillion, OP. What was particularly egregious about the Bandy call was that you had a ball carrier who was fighting for additional yardage and lunged forward at the last moment, bringing his entire body level, including head, down into a defender who had already launched at a lower angle but had no ability to readjust.

They at least need to build some leeway into the rule where officials can determine that it was the ball carrier who actually lowered his helmet level into the tackler at the last moment, and thus, there is no targeting.

As it stands now, any official with an agenda can drastically alter a game and ruin a team's season.

face facts. the admin of the vast majority of colleges and universities are a bunch of F'n PC weenies who would love to get rid of football tomorrow and if it didnt bring in millions and millions they would. many people believe we are ultimately headed for flag football or some non-contact bullsh*t

+ 100 Trillion

This joke of a penalty is already ruining the game. Ejection? That's insane. 15 yards is enough with 2nd time resulting in having to sit out a quarter. I also agree that if its not called on the field that it should not be allowed to be called from a replay. Completely ridiculous.

Remember what the ref said before they tossed Bandy? He said " During the course of the replay to determine a fumble it was determined that #2 may have engaged in targeting." Or something like that. GTFOOH with that garbage! Are you kidding me? What's next? "During the course of reviewing a touchdown play we determined that #57 was scratching his nut sack. Unsportsmanlike conduct 15 yards to be accessed on the kickoff."

Yeah, this is starting to affect my enjoyment of the game, and I can't be alone. Every time someone makes a big hit they immediately start reviewing it and looking for a penalty.

Perfect post

The ridiculous nature of the rule was on display last night when Amari Carter crippled the Savannah St. player with a clean block to the chest. What is becoming clear with how the rule is being legislated is the intent is to take the violence out of the game. Any hit that looks violent will bring the interest of the refs now.

In an attempt to make the game safer - impossible to do - they will in fact make the game more dangerous.

×10000

The most maddening part is the inconsistency of which it is called. The Bandy/Carter results shows the stupidity of the rule. One was dangerous, one was tackling a falling runner. It's not about safety, it's about technicalities, which defeats the purpose.

I personally thought that was targeting. (helmets looked like they hit) The rule sucks for a guy like AC who is 6'3 cracking back on a 5'9 guy. Hard to always get low enough.

The color announcer last night said it wasn’t targeting on Bandy. Those refs flat out had it in for us that game.

Then you have no clue what your are looking at. That was a clean hit. Point blank

You are*

And yes, yes I do. If it had been called targeting it wouldn't have been overturned. Just crappy angles to go by. Carry on. JMO
