Takeaways from Miami's First Win of the Season

I wouldn't go so far to call JW exceptional. For now, he is good....IMHO, exceptional QB's are all about finding consistent ways to win, not stats, so we will see as he grows
I have no problem with calling his play thus far exceptional. For a young player making his 3rd career start he has been better than what anyone could have expected. The wins will come and Williams should continue to improve as the season progresses. This offense as a whole will grow together and the most exciting thing about it is that everyone is coming back next year unless Deejay decides to declare. The key here will be the WRs other than Osborn. Jeff Thomas should come around soon but if 2 of Pope, Hightower, Wiggins and Payton begin to really find their groove forget it. This offense will be deadly. All in good time.

Miami was 75th in YPG coming into this game so I don’t agree with the assertion that we’ve had no issues moving the ball. The offense looked sluggish in the first quarter and even when they finally got things going there were still way too many slow developing plays from under center that are not going to work against teams with a pulse.

On the positive side, the WRs played great today and the defense showed up.

Part of that stat is the fact that most of the country has been playing tune up fcs teams for the last two weeks.

I would like to see more downfield passing plays. Maybe more will come next week. I liked the 54 yard pass to Pope. William's ypa was 10.6 this game and his average so far is 8.5 or 8.6. Also curious what our ypp is as well?

Honestly, that was the worst 63-0 win in CFB history.

Bethune played even worse than they usually do. We should have won more like 84-0.

Coming into the game I would have been happy with a 63-0 win. But after actually watching the game I’m not.

Shouldn't even be a thread about beating Bethune Cookman lol

  1. Bubba Baxa continues to struggle. At 4 for 8 on the year, Bubba Baxa is going through the toughest stretch of his young career. Baxa's confidence is shot, and he looked terrified before attempting his eventual 26-yard chip shot miss. The only way for Baxa to get out of his rut is to get on a kicking streak of his own. Unfortunately, the way Baxa is kicking, he'll special teams will likely cost Miami another game this season. For a team that needs all the points it can get, it doesn't help that Miami's kicker has left 12 points on the board this year.

  2. Miami continues to struggle on third down and in the RedZone. This is the primary concern for Dan Enos going forward. Miami doesn't have an issue moving the ball until it gets to the RedZone. This team also continues to struggle on third down, and can't afford to whiff so many times against better teams.

These two points, combined, are cause for concern. This kicking situation needs to be rectified immediately.

Regardless of record, who would have imagined we'd be 3 games in and not a single interception.
