I wonder which of these methods or devices we currently use? I think targeting rules have caused us problems and adjustments ala this article seem effective:
Thoughts? Comments?

Our problem wasn't the wrong style of tackling, it was poor execution. Either Manny wasn't teaching it right, or guys just weren't buying in and were performing some mashup between what they were used to and a newer style. There's no reason why "Rugby" tackling shouldn't work, as long as it's executed correctly, but you've got to overcome years of practicing another type of tackling.

Bottom line: Manny sucks with regard to tackling, but not for the reason you think.

Exactly. No wrap up, no shoulder placement, no run thru and drive. Just wreckless arm tackling that would've been a broken tackle with a better pass.
And that's the other thing, guys love the big hit. So instead of making the **** tackle like they've been taught, they just launch themselves like a missile while imagining how cool it's going to look on Sportscenter. The defensive equivalent of dropping a perfect pass because you're too busy planning your TD dance.

U know what funny about our tackling problems is not getting enough players around the ball. The funny part is i remember when Diaz came he talked about that alot and how when they watched the tape back if they freeze frame it and man was not in the frame there were consequences. I remember that article or interview whatever it was. But the more Manny stayed around it seems he got lazy and lacadasical like he arrived as big time coach. Not even meeting with recruits when they came on campus and such. It's not a wonder that it manifested on the field. Players are gonna break single man tackle no matter who it is, the key is having numbers to wrap up. Steele said as much too.

No expert here, but the best tackles I've ever seen executed by Miami - is when they just go out there with the full intention to knock someone's damned head off.

Or, at least knock them to next Tuesday.

SportSCenter??? OK, boomer.

does anyone know which style mentioned we use or Diaz used? Do we use anything like the robot? That is why I posted an old article that is applicable to our team. Personally I think the targeting rules hurt us quite a bit...especially since we've had problems with officiating.

Exactly. We'll put. As a defensive guy its my biggest pet peeve. Imagine using the same level of speed and force with your arms actually wrapped around. Fierce tackle that looks a lot cooler on sportscenter
