Syracuse Post Game Plus/Minus:

Play calling leaves a lot to be desired, but we're a couple of Richards and Berrios catches away from a comfortable win to be honest.

Also, Michael Jackson is turning into a beast.

You're correct. But after 6 games, offensively why are we still struggling in long spurts? In fact we did just the opposite this game (Fast start, struggle, then pull it out).

The reason we look disjointed is we arent there yet in terms of overall miami type talent, even MR knows that but hes winning which is a good thing. Imagine when he gets this roster proper with real UM depth at every spot

This guy gets it.

It's amazing that our fan base hates Richt as a play caller yet he has a fvckin career backup/baseball player at QB leading a top 20 offense (and top 15 in advanced statistics via FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | 2017 NCAA FOOTBALL S&P+ RATINGS )

We have 970 total yards in the last 2 games lol
Ya the redzone offense is stinkin it up, but that's not on Richt imo. Until these young OL grow up and mature physically, we just aren't going to push teams around. We have no depth at RB, and no FB to line up under center and help pound the rock in.

We're getting there. We are 6-0 in a rebuilding year.

I didn't love the play calling, and I've been defending Rick more than most, but if our WRs (I'm looking at your all-American ***, Richards) catch passes, we win this game in a ****ing blowout. It's like 24-0 at the half if we catch ****ing passes and the 2nd half I'm sipping tequila, not pounding beers.

I don't know if we win this game in a "blowout". It definitely would be helpful if we caught those passes:

1. Drop #1: +4

3rd and Goal at SYR 1
(7:29 - 1st) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Ahmmon Richards

This is a relevant drop. Instead we kick the FG. If (instead) we score the TD + EP = +4

2. Drop #2: Irrelevant

1st and 10 at MIAMI 16
(1:59 - 1st) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Travis Homer

This drop didn't matter. On the very next play Homer caught a pass for 24 yards to get the first down. Also, we scored a TD on this drive.

3. Drop #3: Irrelevant

1st and 10 at MIAMI 40
(1:29 - 1st) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Ahmmon Richards

This drop also didn't matter. Two plays later, Herndon caught a pass and took it 35 yards. Also, we scored a TD on this drive.

4. Drop #4: +4

1st and 10 at SYR 29
(11:41 - 2nd) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Ahmmon Richards

This is a relevant drop although a TD is NOT guaranteed especially with our red-zone TD%. Let's assume we would get the TD on this drive/play. Instead we kick the FG.
If (instead) we score the TD + EP = +4

5. Drop #5: The Full Extension Berrios "Drop"

2nd and 9 at SYR 47
(12:19 - 3rd) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Braxton Berrios

I don't consider this a "drop" as this would be an extremely difficult reception. Running full speed, with a full extension, is a very difficult play.

6. Drop #6: Irrelevant

1st and 10 at MIAMI 28
(4:37 - 4th) Malik Rosier pass incomplete to Jeff Thomas

Langham caught a pass for a first down on the next play.

Please note the following:

- I didn't count the Richards drop where we had the ineligible player downfield as this play wouldn't have counted.

- Also, on some of the drops (not the Richards TD drop) there is no guarantee we end up with a TD if the drop didn't occur.

- Remember, drops are part of the game. They happen, mistakes are made.

I think you just proved my point. We probably would have been up at least 21-0, and the game likely would have been over the way it was going. The Berrios "drop" would have been a good catch, but it went right through his hands, and the way he's been playing this year, he should have caught it. Could actually have been more than 21-0.

We would likely have 8 more points in total. That Berrios catch was incredibly difficult. “Good catch”? “Should have caught”? Full extension at full speed? That would be a very difficult catch. Even of it was a catch, there is no guarantee we score a TD on it (or points in general).

The other problem is Rosiers decision making with the reads. The DE crashed a few times where if he pulled it he would still be running.

I really think motioning Thomas would open the run game because it would stress the defense so much more having to worry about the jet sweep.

great to have you back Dan

i'm with you on the offensive coaching. No Langham until late again. poor 2nd half playcalling, I'm glad we got the win but the same things keep popping up on O. This O is plenty talented. We're legit 7 deep at WR, good O-line (despite lack of push on the run), good tight end (who we finally decided to use and then subsequently abandon), and a star at RB who started the season as our #2 back (because the other kid was a beast too)

we were kicking their *** in the 1st half, then the real Mark Richt decided that Mr. Hyde had to go away. Rosier is talented enough to take this team far. Our D is talented enough to go far. Richt is not maximizing our offensive talent and its the only reason we don't look like a playoff team right now. With a good playcaller we'd be a top 3-5 team right now who has dominated everyone in front of us to date.

We're undefeated and #8 , but we're not playing to our full potential and that has been squarely on the long spouts of ineffective offense due to Richt's playcalling.

Glad we got the win, but we can't keep playing like this on O and expect to not get surprised by someone

Anyway you can contact this poor coaching staff and give them a few pointers on how to run block and receivers catch passes?

I don't want to hear about drops. This isn't just about today's game. Our issues on offense go back to last season...and maybe we could run the ball if we ran more than 3 runs out of the same formation each time.

Drops are a unique problem to our school. I am not even pointing out the play calling alone, per se, but the offense is where we have the majority of the issues (which continue from last year).

On the other hand, the defense is holding our ACC opponents to less than 16 PPG while forcing 2.25 TO/pg.

I think a little less would be blamed on play calling if we don’t have those drops. There was 2-3 TD’s left on the field due to lack of execution, not play calling. I think a combo of early season games being missed, injury bug, and consistency have all been lumped into “bad play calling”.

I agree.

Some of these guys act like the coaches should be flawless but the players dropping passes doesn't matter.

When did we become this dominant juggernaut that should beat everyone by 100 points every week? Syracuse just beat the **** out of the defending National Champions and has a very good HC and great system. That was no fluke against Clemson. They controlled that game and stifled them with their defense. They're light years better than they've been.

GT is also a very good team with a crazy system that confounds almost everyone.

FSU has recruited way better than us over the last 5 years. Everyone had them as a playoff team this year, so either everyone was wrong, or they're a pretty **** talented team.

The ACC is a tough **** football conference. UM isn't a dominant team. There will be wars every week. I'm just glad we're coming out on the right end of those wars.

Of course, we're not playing or coaching perfectly. Neither is anyone else aside from Alabaga. Before yesterday, Ped State hadn't played anyone with a pulse. I don't think Michigan is as good as FSU anyway.
