The Sun Life Stadium renovation project has officially begun.

Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel posted the first photo of corner end zone seats being removed.

Construction crews will spend the next few months replacing every seat at Sun Life. The 100-level sideline sections will be rebuilt with eight or nine lower rows added so that there will be seats closer to the action.

But overall capacity will be reduced by nearly 10,000 to about 66,000. Corner seats in the upper deck will be removed to provide room for columns that will support a canopy.

Some of the columns will be up for the 2015 season, but the canopy — which will shield fans from rain and reduce sun exposure— won’t be ready until 2016.

The 100-level and upper-deck concourses will be renovated in time for next season. Improvements of the 200-section, club-level suites, new video screens and the canopy will be completed in 2016.

The Dolphins have not yet announced details of the new seats. Many fans have been clamoring for a color other than orange, which sticks out like a sore thumb on TV when the seats are empty.

Worse news than retaining Golden. Far worse. Golden regulates the program for a few more years, if that. Remaining in that incompetent venue limits Miami-area football for 50 years or more, if we allow it to happen, which is seemingly the case. The end of the world began in 1987.

Stadium was plenty loud for UNC and FSU games this year. The reno will help keep crowd noise in, improve (some of) the issue WRT seats not close enough to field, and will give shade from the heat and shelter from the rain. I'll take it.

Personally I think it's going to be pretty nice.

better than nothing

just wish we could have our own endzones back. even temple paints their endzones red on some occasions but the team with 5 titles is stuck with "Miami"

You know what would also help with crowd noise? Having more than 20,000 people inside the bowl for a game. A roof can only reflect so much noise if nobody is there to provide it.

No argument from me.

Unfortunately, though, that gets us into a chicken v. egg discussion. Do the crowds not show up because Sun Life doesn't have a great environment, or does the environment suck because no one shows up to games?

Either way, the reno will help. People won't be able to complain about the sun/heat keeping them away, there will be seats available closer to the field, and improved crowd noise should help with home-field advantage.

this is miami. we had empty seats for Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss' last game in 2000 when we were wrapping up a 11-1 regular season. it is what it is.

people will ***** about anything. A state of the art nfl stadium... **** that we want a piece of **** falling down stadium again! maybe we could be the laughing stock of the NCAA and play our games in that hilarious Miami Beach bowl configuration...

Wish they'd put a canopy over Ray J in Tampa. I don't go to games there until later in the season because it's too hot. This will bring more fans because they know they will be shaded

That whole 5 titles thing means a whole **** of a lot less when the last time we won one current students were still learning about how not to **** themselves to sleep at night.

We have a **** of a lot more problems with this program than what font is being used in the end zones of our shared NFL stadium 17 miles from campus.

Ive talked to several season ticket holders (canes and Dolphins) and their take is the stadium is just fine.
****, its only what, 20 years old?

People gonna ***** regardless. They would find fault with anything.
The Orange Bowl is gone. Get over it.
