Pre-Mario, win or lose, teams would play the Canes and not miss a beat in following weeks. It was almost like a vacation (from a physicality standpoint). There's been lots of discussion about how much more physical the Canes are on both offense and defense during game day. But there's been minimal discussion of the hangover teams experience after playing Miami in the 23 cycle so I decided to take a peek:
Clemson: Loss (NC St)
UNC: Two consecutive losses to bad teams
Tech: Loss BC
Temple: Four consecutive losses
A&M: three consecutive wins*
Miami (Ohio): five consecutive wins
*Wegman got badly beat up and eventually would be lost for the year a few weeks later. Multiple reports about how the Miami game beat them up badly.
I think it's relatively safe to say at this point its no longer a vacation to play the Canes, and more importantly, there's going to be a hangover/injury effect that will be a challenge to overcome (especially for major opponents/major games).
