Stacy Searles Ol coach

I'm all for accountability but the situation at VTech offense has been mess for quite a few seasons. Bad QBs, lack of skill players, injured RBs. It's not accurate to pull out a statistic or two and judge the man's coaching ability. Especially for OL-men, when most players need a few seasons to physically develop.

Searels seems like a solid hire. He has coached in the P5 conferences for over a decade, and fits the man-blocking power running game Richt preferred at Georgia.

Well, at the very least, Searels is a competent veteran coach and not some know-nothing HS flunky. You can win with him. I'm concerned with his recent results (not a great sign when guys' careers dip a little as they age), but he's a competent guy who knows what Richt wants.

Our OLine was a joke last year, but Searels should have better material to work with this upcoming season than he did this past season
at VT, so we shall see.

Reasons to pause and reflect upon a concern or two? Sure! Upgrade from what we had, ***** yes!

Agreed - doesn't sound like he's Bill Calahan but he has a lot of major conference experience, decent track record recruiting, and gotten some tangible success out of lines that feature inexperienced/not elite players. Seems like a massive upgrade over Kehoe in every capacity.

Wow! Hope so - dude is an amazing OL coach IMO.

Based on?

Vag Tech has been known for their incredible running game and great pass protection the last few years. LOL
VT's 2014 OL stats are an abortion. There's no getting around that. Their 2015 stats look better though. Still pretty bad at pass protection but not awful in run blocking:

Definitely some red flags as you and others have pointed out but I'm keeping an open mind. He can't be worse than Kehoe. And if he isn't getting the job done I trust Richt to replace him.

JJ, I watched a lot of VT football, and their line play the last couple years has been a disaster. They don't run the ball well like they used to. And their pass protection has been a nightmare. Many kill shots on their QBs.

I just don't want to get into the "he can't be worse than _____(fill in the guy from the worst staff in the history of college football)" way of thinking. We don't just need upgrades from our last staff. We need mega upgrades.

Considering the short time he was there, he probably didn't bring in any of those guys. Not sure if that would make any difference in your mind. I didn't watch a lot of Va Tech games. From what you observed, what was the talent level of their O line recruits vs ours?
