Assume the guy ESPN kept showing after all those **** ups is ST Analyst? With Unlimited Staff now, can't believe Canes can't hire better!
 
While Davis definitely did help us win the ND game......I wouldn't say we were great, or even very good, in the special teams department all year. We didn't give up big returns on kickoffs and punts, but other than that I'm not sure we really did anything else all that well.

That has a way of biting you in the *** in games like this.

Haven’t had a blocked punt all year. Bauman BIG mistake and Davis needs to go in the portal. Special teams overhaul much needed. Should have won the game.

I get why we chose to kick, but 50 was too long - he's 50/50 at best from that distance, and not because he doesn't have the leg. I thought he had it but it just kept drifting right. It reminds me of when I hit the crap out of a golf ball with my driver, but I leave the shoulders a bit right on contact and block it out of bounds.

Special teams were a disaster. In some ways, I think the blocked punt almost helped us. It forced our offense to be aggressive, saved time, and allowed our defense to rest. But they were atrocious - missed FG, blocked punt for a TD, multiple holding penalties, bad punts, and fielding punts at the 4.
 
Im tired of the shield punt formation and Aussie kickers. Wish teams would go back to pro style punt but that would require too much effort.

Toney has been the one bright spot all season for our special teams units. He probably shouldn’t have fielded that one last night at the 4 yd line, but he’s still been A+ as a punt returner. Completely flipped that unit from the previous seasons.

Now, our other special teams units. They haven’t been a disaster all season, but they are certainly mid to below average. Last night, they were a disaster. Extremely disappointing and cost us the championship.
 
ST cost us 10 points. That's the bottom line.
Missed FG and gave up a TD on a punt that Indiana was in PUNT SAFE.



Everything else is in the realm of normal football. Even the missed FG is excusable.

But the blocked punt for a TD is 100% inexcusable.
