I had interesting seats; 45 yard line 7 rows up. Here's a few things I saw that I dont believe have been mentioned.

  • BCU had some FAST wide receivers. That team has some skill position dudes on offense. I think our DB's were surprised by their offensive speed. It took a series for our D to adjust to it. I think BCU will score a ton of points against their level of competition in the SWAC.

  • BCU had some tiny-*** dudes on special teams. I would not read too much into our return game success from this game. Their kick coverage team looked smaller than some high school JV teams Ive seen.

  • I really liked what I saw from Caleb Johnson. He tracks really well. Maybe not the fastest but he seemed to diagnose plays really well. "Always around the ball" kinda guy. He was also coaching-up Wesley Bissainthe presnap on every play when WB came in the game.

  • The improvement in mini-Borregales' leg strength was plainly evident.

  • Darryl Jackson's presence jumps out at you when he's on the field. As soon as the teams break the huddle and get to the line you immediately see that Darryl Jackson is notably larger than everyone else on the field. He's the "Woah, who's THAT kid?" guy.

  • After the D got the first turnover, it was interesting to note the absence of the turnover chain. Being at the game it was a good thing. It kept your focus on the game. Before everyone would take all of their attention away from the game to watch this big celebration party then have to refocus your brain on the game. I have to imagine it's the same for the players as well. It came off as more "pure football" without the distraction of the chain.

  • My excitement over Jake Garcia continues at the highest level.

  • Regardless of the freak athleticism of the two Williams, Kam Kinchens is the best safety on the team. Side note, I think Brian Balom is an FCS all-conference caliber player. Dude is just buried behind three elite level safeties.

Anyway, I rarely start threads but thought I'd throw some Sunday morning after-thoughts out there that I didnt see discussed. Oh and it was hot as balls in the first half yesterday. lol

Jackson's butt is at least twice as wide as LT when they're paired together. What's crazy is that Anez Cooper is bigger than Jackson.

I had to look up some height and weight numbers. On paper Darryl Jackson is not the biggest dude on our lines. That said, he sure looks bigger than everyone else when you see them all at field level.

We are in good shape with QB position for the foreseeable future.

Agreed. That was the take away from the second half yesterday. Jake Garcia will give us 2-3 years as a starter. That will give us enough time to allow one or more of the following to occur:

1) Jacurri Brown to develop into a serviceable Power 5 QB. (Im far from sold on Brown at this point)

and/or

2) Allow for enough time to see if either Williams or Rashada pan out.

It's good to have multiple irons in the fire at this position.

Thanks for this writeup, always welcome your insights. I'm excited to see how Jackson develops, hoping he is our next truly great DT. JW is an elite athlete, but as I noted when they committed, Kinchens is the better pure safety. Baller. I have always been high on Balom. Feel he should be rotated in more often. Kid is good.

Maybe it’s me but all around the DL looked bigger than i can recall from recent years. Albeit we were matched against an under sized team.
Bringing in 4 upperclasmen who have been in college strength program multiple years will do that, then add a 6'6 320 mountain on top of that to fill out your front four depth chart.. Yea, big changes

Not many people realize the BC QB was a 4* kid coming out of high-school and I read he was committed to UF at 1 point in his career. We will see a step up against Southern Miss. Hopefully we'll have a better understanding of what we have after that game and then the real test week 3 at 1 of the loudest venues in the nation
