Had the pleasure of watching Canes beat them in 1949 by a score of 28-13.In 1950 the Seminole war canoe trophy came into being. This was awarded to the winner of the game until.FL decided to end the annual series. At that point Miami decided they would keep it forever. Last I saw it was located in Miamis Hall of Fame. Is it still there ?

God bless you, sir. Yes the war canoe is still in the HOF. We won the last game in the series in 1987, 31-4.

Thanks to all for the answers. Yes my grands call me ancient. Spent 26 years search and rescue US Navy. Retired 1989. Only doctor visits since have been annual.physicals. Owe my good health to cooking that good fat back in all.my vegetables. A pint of good stout nightly helps. The last is aided by a couple shots of that good shine made in the south FL swamps a couple nights a week. Tell her the day I quit admiring the hotties bury me. Would not be any good to her at that point

if you go to the games and sit in the good seats you know we have senior citizen fans. the real question is who knew we had senior citizens posting on the board.
Started posting on Grassy so many years ago I can't remember. Since then I've come on other boards and this is my latest one. I'm a UM alumnus and I'll be 70 next month.

Yeah...who knew.....

I've been here from 2012....I've spoken many times about the teams in the '50's and '60's. So have others.

DaytonaCane's late husband was starting fullback in 1957. Ahead of him on starting lineup was All-American QB and future head coach Fran Curci and future legend Jim Otto.

She's got a few years on me.

But SwampCougar must be early '80's to '90's.

I wonder if he remembers first pro football team in South Florida, the Miami Seahawks. (1946). I wasn't born yet.

If you had read some of my other posts and DaytonaCane's posts earlier this summer you would know we have a number of people who saw games in the 1950's and '60's. DaytonaCane I believe was watching games as a young married woman. I think her husband Doug Davis followed as a starter our great All-American fullback Don Bosseler when he graduated in '57.

The war canoe was retired and put into the UM HOF after the gator cancelled the annual series. We have no intention of ever giving it back.

I'm still in touch with some of the players from the Tate era. One posts here, Sigmar.

I'm not an alum but followed Cane's since mid-50's as a local fan. My father attended UM, though.

You aren't ancient. You're experienced. This lack of appreciation and respect for our elders is why we are looking at the decline of the republic.

Of course you served valiantly; we have much to learn. I am gonna try out your hardass real man diet. Doing the fat and veggies already but I need to switch to stout at night.

Go Canes, if you ever want tickets, DM me. I will take that shine you mentioned as consideration.

My first game was in 1965 against ND. The QB for ND was Bill Zloch and he was from Fort Lauderdale where he was on the Little League team I was on. Ended in a 0 to 0 tie. Ted Hendricks was a star of the game.
