As it goes tfwiw. And smfh at coley, aqm and grace.

There have been some interesting developments over the past couple of weeks based on talking to a number of people. Here’s some of the buzz:

• Butch Davis was interested in being Miami’s interim coach after Al Golden was fired on Oct. 25. The university gave the idea long consideration that day before settling on current tight ends coach Larry Scott to be the interim coach.

• Even though UM eventually passed on Davis for the interim position, Miami is still considering him for the full-time position. The primary concern UM has with Davis is the academic scandal and investigation with improper benefits at North Carolina when Davis was there. The NCAA eventually cleared Davis, but there is concern about his involvement and if he would get into a situation at Miami, which recently had a lengthy investigation of its own resulting in minor sanctions.

• If Miami wants Chuck Pagano, then they will need to offer him the job and let it be known he is their top priority because Pagano has to be careful about lobbying for the job because he is currently the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and is not going to leave his job for the possibility of landing the Miami position. UM must make it known they want him and the job is his if he wants it. The Colts are currently 4-5 as Pagano is in the final year of his contract.

• If Chuck Pagano were to be the next head coach at Miami, his current offensive coordinator and former Hurricane player and assistant Rob Chudzinski would be considered to be his offensive coordinator at Miami. Also, Pagano could turn to former Miami head coach Randy Shannon to return to UM as his defensive coordinator. It would be an odd situation, but it’s not something that Shannon would rule out according to a source close to the situation. Shannon and Pagano were on the UM staff together for three seasons (1995-97) as defensive assistants and Pagano was a graduate assistant at UM for one season when Shannon was a player.

• There seems to be some misconceptions about Al Golden’s “buyout.” There was not a decrease in money that they owed him if they waited until the end of the season and UM did not have to pay more for letting him go during the season. There was also not a decrease at a certain date, which was believed to be either in December or January. Essentially Golden is owed the remainder on his contract, like most college coach contracts. It is unclear if UM would have to pay the full amount or something like 75 percent, but he will be getting paid for his deal that ran through 2019.

• It has been discussed in a previous Insider article, but there is continuous discussion inside the UM program that draft-eligible players will be leaving school early even if they are not high draft picks including WR Stacy Coley, DE Al-Aquadin Muhammad, and LB Jermaine Grace. Junior CB Artie Burns is having a good season with five interceptions and is expected to be a top-3 round pick and is almost certainly leaving early.

• The board of trustees will have input in the head coaching hire, but ultimately the decision will be made by director of athletics Blake James. The board of trustees will approve of the contract, but James is the one making the decision.

• Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal is in consideration for the position, but Miami has not come up a short list yet. UM is still exploring a number of names and it is still early in the process.

• Charlie Strong’s Texas team lost to West Virginia over the weekend dropping the Longhorns to 4-6 on the season needing wins over Texas Tech (6-5) and Baylor (8-1) in the final two games to become bowl-eligible. Strong went 6-7 last season at Texas, his first in Austin, and there has to be growing concerns internally and from Strong on whether or not he can get the program turned around in the near future. When Strong signed with Texas there was a belief within the coaching staff that Texas would give him three years to get it going although he signed a five-year deal (which is a common deal for college coaches). This means that Strong would be entering his third season with at least 13 losses to his credit and would need a big year to remain at Texas. With that being said it would not be inconceivable to think that Strong would be looking at different options after this season.

A journalist wrote that sentence?

I won't hate on anyone feeling the need to declare for the draft...just make sure you come back and get that degree.

My feelings on players leaving early:

Burns - Having a good year. Should go
Grace - Biggest knock will be his size. It's not like he's going to get any bigger. He should go. Wouldn't be surprised if a team tries him at Safety due his size/speed.
Coley - Go. I don't think he ever planned on staying more than 3 years. He's shown how talented he is the 2nd half of the year. It's a weak year for WR's too.
AQM - I think another year in a better defensive system would do him good.

I'd be surprised if any of them stayed.

Aqm and grace might not get drafted.

Grace would, but I'd predict round 5 or 6 given his size. But he has a good body of work. Meanwhile, AQM has extreme athletic ability and potential, however he only has 2 years of collegiate football under his belt.

Baring injury there is no downside to them coming back for their final year. Their draft stock will only increase but "gotta feed the fam" mindset from 12 years old is kicking in. Hard to "feed the fam" from the practice squad but it's their choice.

Anyone claiming to be a professional who cannot take the time to proofread has zero credibility with me.

That Player section really got me surprise. I don't know these boys situation personally but staying in school would be more beneficial for 3 out the 4(Artie$$$). Stacy finally starting to wake up in the last couple weeks after a Leggett type or worst slump last year. AQM a protential beast of a player, but that's just what he would be reaching for in the mind of NFl coaches, his potential. Grace would blow up at the Combine and he is the best linebacker we have so idk. Those are just my opinion though.

Think Charlie would be a good hire with the right OC. He already been know prior to Texas for his hard nose defense. And after these last 2 years at Texas I know that hunger to prove the doubters wrong would be in him.

there isnt one guy i would miss if he left this year. i could care less if they all go pro.

i was sad to see perryman and duke go last year - those guys werent quitters.

Butch wanted to even be the interim coach as well? Miami should have gave him a chance if it was possible

I think Grace would be picked in the middle rounds and converted to safety.

AQM should definitely stay. I don't think he would be drafted.

We need coley and grace back. Both will benefit by coming back next year. Should not leave unless you are 3rd round pick or less. Artie Burns should leave. Rare ability will translate well into next level.

Anybody think if somehow Pagano was hired, Butch would come on as Assoc HC/D Coordinator?
