So with college football as a stepping

So with college football basically a stepping stone to the NFL, now more than ever. If you are projected as a first round choice in the draft..... Would you play in a bowl game or would you just take it off. We all have seen players that left the U and did really well at the combines and moved themselves up in the draft while having just an average last year at the college level. Do you risk injury in a game that means nothing to you career?

You begin your post with a hyperbolic and exaggerated claim - "college football" is NOT "basically a stepping stone to the NFL" In fact, less than 1.6 of college football players ever make an NFL roster in any capacity. If you then remove those that only last a year or two the number plummets to under .5%. Now you might have made a more cogent beginning by suggesting that a handful of programs (maybe 5-20) have become a "stepping stone" to the NFL. The real problem is that 52% of Division 1 college football players believed that they were "on their way" to the NFL, despite only 1.6% ever sniffing the NFL. The best thing we could do is remove football from universities altogether and begin a club system similar to that which European soccer clubs utilize. But that notwithstanding, the idea that college football, real or perceived, is a stepping stone to the NFL is fallacious - in fact, college football is much more of a stepping stone to sell insurance and become mired in a middle-class existence of meaningless time wasting until you die.

Thanks for the reply and Grammer correction. With all that you posted, you failed to answer the basic questions. If you are a first round draft choice, do you play that last game and risk your possible (according to you and your statics) future in the NFL... Beyond the stats (stats are for losers) do you play?? Simple question that you made really complicated Sorry I confused you and you found it necessary to bury the post

Yes. Any player that pulled that BS would immediately be questioned for his desire to win and would hurt himself more financially than the injury.
 
If you sit out, you are giving the NFL decision makers something to question your character, which could be detrimental to your draft status. Also, once you open Pandora's box, where does it end then? Do they just not sit out bowl games but sit out the last 1-2 games of the year once their team is out of the conference race? It sets a bad precedent.

We all understand the risks involved and while it may seem logical on the surface, i can guarantee many will see sitting as choosing to not support your teammates and putting yourself before all else.....something that doesn't go over well in NFL locker rooms and GMs. If you aren't going to play in college, are you going to play in the NFL when you are nicked? Late in the season when your team is struggling and/or out of the playoff race? Are you going to play late in games if your team is losing? Look at all the "character" guys that have been talented but run out of NFL towns.....Mike Wallace, TO, Randy Moss, etc. Mario Williams was just called out by a teammate for not trying and is going to be cut. Character is HUGE in the NFL these days.
 
What could possibly happen? A torn acl is a minor injury these days. Gurley had a torn acl and still was a first round pick.

I'd be wanting a gamer not someone worried about losing a little money

I don't think you know what the word "Grammer" (it is GrammAr moron, that is a spelling correction btw) means, since I did not correct your "grammer" ( I corrected your premise by the way)....but judging by the rest of your post, I don't think you know what a lot of things mean.

The NFL loves pragmatic players who only play hard when it means something to the player. Individual pride and team concepts are not needed the league.
 
Well, it looks like everybody but you figured out that post and replied with reasonable answers. And I am sorry that I don't post more often. But looking at most of the post, they have very little substance and are virtually just guesses. And that's okay as long as we all remember that no one on the board has any reliable information as it who is coming and when they are coming. But I do agree with your statistics and accept them as reasonable. I hope the players get their degrees and succeed in life with a decent job due to their time at the U...

Yeah, that's not true at all. IF you don't play hard in the nfl, you're not going to be in the nfl for very long.
