So what is our starting Oline?

I get that but are these True Freshman better then guys we would have starting? Is Rivers a better option at Guard then Traore? Is Walker a better option then Campbell or Nelson? I 100% agree with the idea of redshirting True freshman but that would only be if we have better options to start. If Rivers is clearly a better Guard then Traore then he needs to play. Best man plays no matter what in my opinion unless it's close and the other options is a upperclassmen.
I agree with that at every position except OL.

I'm one of the biggest proponents on this board of playing True Freshman, but Offensive Line is a different animal than playing as a TF at spots like RB, WR, LB, CB etc..

You need to be physically developed in order to play consistently on the OL, stars don't matter when it comes to OL play, smart & physically capable matter more, time & development is the key to making a good OL.

Jalen Rivers & Issaiah Walker are two very good talented players with high upsides & bright futures, but forcing them in the lineup too early will not help them in their development. Unless the guys ahead of them are injured or just downright terrible to the point of being unplayable they need to learn & get a full year in the S&C program before being thrown to the wolves.

Miami is not a program like Bama, LSU, Oh St, Clemson, etc that can just plug & play an 18 year old on the OL, they have a strong team surrounding them at those programs so it's not as difficult of a transition, for Miami in our current state as is, we need experienced veteran leadership, especially for this season in particular.

This isn't a growing pains season, this is a win right now season, which means we can't afford to have trial & error runs at important positions like OT, we need 5 stable consistent lineman with experience & multiple starts that can hold down the fort & won't be overwhelmed on the road.

Unless Walker & Rivers can play like All-conference players with limited reps in the S&C program, both should ideally redshirt this season & be in line to be full time starters next season.

I always felt his upside was best at Guard, he can play Tackle because he's that good, but in the instances when he did play RT he struggled some as well. Obviously, a lot of that had to do with Enox's scheme but I also think playing him out of position doesn't maximize his ability.

I like your idea to either play him next to Williams to have a strong side of the line or put him next to the other Tackle to help balance out what may be a weaker side.

I think a lot depends on which side they play Williams on, if they keep him at RT I would keep Scaife at LG, if they put Williams at LT I'd move Scaife to RG & see what we got with Donaldson, Traore, Reed etc at LG.

Either way, adding Williams has given us a pheneomal chess piece for the line, there's no doubt in my mind now that in Lashlee's offense under Justice's coaching we will see a greatly improved OL.

LCE what are your thoughts on Clark at Guard?
I thought he looked interesting there last year.

"The solution to our OL issues is not to continuously keep plugging in 18 year old TF's at spots when they need development. Let's let our young lineman get stronger & learn the offense before tossing them out there to swim or drown."

Walker is a great piece for the future & has potential to be a very good OT for us, however he missed Spring camp for both UF & Miami & will have limited time in the S&C program, he needs to a full season in the S&C before he's thrown out on the field. Even if he gets a waiver he shouldn't be playing unless it's in the 2nd half of a blowout game.

He needs redshirt, barring injury he should only see mop up duty in 4 games. I know everybody always wants the young guys to play, I do to, especially at the skill positions, but OL is different, we're not a program that can afford to keep playing 18 year olds on the OLine & expect to win games. Even with improved offensive scheme & coaching we need to let the young OL's develop before forcing them in the lineup.

Yeah I don't want Walker, Rivers et al to see the field ideally. Sick of us running out in inexperience.

He can play some at Guard, but I think his position is best to be developed into a Center.

Right now we don't have a backup Center behind Gaynor & Clark played C in HS, so ideally if Gaynor stays healthy & all the other Guards stay healthy we should transition Clark to being a full time Center, especially since Gaynor only has 1 more year left of eligibility after this season, as I understand it he's a Red Junior which means 2021 will be his final season & at that time we'll have only Ryan Rodriguez at Center who will be a TF.

I think you can play Clark at Guard if he's needed there, but otherwise groom him to become a Center.

At some point you have to have a plan and build to it. Unless the need is dire, the talent disparity tremendous and the talent level extremely high, you should try to redshirt those true frosh OL, IMO.

Redshirts for Nelson, Clark, Donaldson, Walker, Rivers, Washington should be the goal. It can be done with the 4 game rule:

Tackle:

Williams
Scaife
Herbert
Hillery
Elgammal

G/C:

Gaynor
Campbell
Traore
Reed
Griffith

I think with the new scheme this will end up being one of the better o-lines in ACC this year
2020

LT- Williams
LG- Traore
C- Gaynor
RG- Scaife
RT- Cambell

But next year this will be one of the most talented o-lines we have had in a decade and proably top 15 to 20 in country
2021

LT- Walker
LG- Donaldson
C- Gaynor
RG- Scaife
RT- Rivers

Campbell looked good at LG in 2019.
Scaife has been our starting RT for two seasons.

Williams / Campbell / Gaynor / Any functioning RG in 2020 / Scaife

When Donaldson gets back into football shape put him at center. He really excelled at C when the Line was getting shifted around
