Not for nothin' but just supposing Larry does more than just run out the clock to December and over the next couple of games makes significant changes and takes the handcuffs off the players, plays the obvious savages - (no participation awards, no pillars, just nasty *** Miami football and runs the table or close to it... I know it's unlikely but what if?

By the way, to date, Butch is the only candidate to actually pass the Butch test.

 
Best part would be him having more success in half a year then Golden had in 5+ years. And he'd be doing it with his own "cloud" given the current state of things (Kaaya out, Burns family issues, Golden's firing and ensuing media storm, following worst loss in school history, etc). Would be hilarious.

Win out Larry! And assume your role, as NIU(or similar program) head coach... Thanks for the help. He is here as a "position" coach for a reason. He is still learning, may be Saban in ten years, "we don't have ten years".

Well, according to Barry Jackson's blog post yesterday, multiple players said that Scott hasn't changed a single thing of substance. I don't think you have to worry about this scenario.

(It boggles my mind how supposedly smart guys can be so resistant to change when it's obvious that the status quo doesn't work.)

Can't say I disagree just threw it out there for discussion. At least they didn't name Coley, seems like we're looking for a clean sweep, possibly retaining Scott for recruiting purposes.

Larry Scott may be a nice guy. But, he has NEVER, EVER, been a HEAD COACH at any level. Not high school, not college and not the CFL or the NFL. And he is going to beat a man who has been a coordinator for twenty years, and a head coach for 10 years in his first crack at it? Just don't see it happening.
 
Scott is one of the very few position corches who might be held over to the next staff. He has done well with our TEs, no real complaints. Beard might be another. Everybody else is chopped liver as far as I'm concerned, including Kehoe.
 
Also, don't expect Scott to "uncuff" our players for the last 5 games. Right now, his #1 priority is to keep the team from imploding and preventing in-house fighting. He is a housekeeper, nothing more and nothing less.



These kids will need an entire off-season(and more) of the next staff to undo all the terrible coaching they received, particularly the defensive kids. Best way to get there without having a full-scale team mutiny is to stay the course, let Dorito continue to call his terrible, lousy, no good D, Coley will keep calling weird and bizarre plays at the most inopportune time, and the season will be over soon enough.


Understand that this season is completely lost. There is very little to play for, other than pride, and you aren't going to install a brand new aggressive defense when you promote a TE coach to HC. You dance with what brung ya, and yes that means we will continue to get gashed for huge chunks of yardage by mediocre teams. We should be used to it, been going on for 5 years, what's another 5 games?
