So according to this board...

I like Butch given what he's done here and I still think he has something left in the tank. But there are a plethora of candidates in this cycle. This wasn't the case when we got Golden (although I believe Mullen was available, and if so, won't get into it). The thing is the Butch extremists really bring down the coaching conversation and make it seem like he's not without fault. That if hired, he'll destroy the cfb landscape. He can build a team, that is certainly evident.

However, as mentioned before he's not without his faults. His gameday coaching is certainly suspect and Bruce Arians (who's a god**** good coach) has called him out publicly on it while he was with the Browns as part of Davis' staff. For most of the names mentioned Strong, Butch, and Ferman as well as the pipe dreams of Miles, Gundy, Patterson, etc.. I'd be happy with either of these hires. They're not perfect, but ****, if they were perfect they wouldn't be available.

However, no thanks to Schiano and Mario. Doesn't take a genius to figure out the disaster that either of them bring.

The problem here is that those who are anti Butch believe you supporting Butch makes you an extremist. The issue is that is why they are called extremist, it's because they are the minority and just like there are Butch "extremist" there are anti Butch extremist as well.

I think deep down 80% of the fan base would be happy with butch or a few of the other realistic candidates. the other 20% are the extremist for or against Butch where it's either can only be Butch or must not be Butch opinions. The other problem we have is unrealistic people who think guys like Dantoni, Patterson, Chip Kelly, Gundy, etc are going to leave their current positions to come here.

I just don't understand the love affair and mass hysteria surrounding someone who:

Left us in the lurch 14 years ago

Didn't win more than 8 games with a stacked roster at UNC and had a losing conference record

Hasn't coached in five years

It's called being a Miami fan. We live in the past with the best of them.

4-3 defense
Pro style offense
Former canes on staff

Equals we back

People would rejoice: Chip Kelly, Dantonio, Patterson

People would be happy: Herman, Butch, Gundy

People would be cool with: Miles, Mullen

People would be cool with be a bit skeptical: Richt, Fuente, Pagano

People would be disappointed/unhappy: Chud, Schiano, Rich Rod

People would lose their minds in anger: Strong

Mass suicide: Mario

I think that about covers it

Pretty accurate

Well said and spot on

Butch is my top choice. I really like Dantonio (especially) and Kelly from Oregon (although I have a strong preference for defensive coaches), but I don't believe the BOT would float enough money for either of these two....

And I don't think Dantonio is going anywhere. I also don't think we'd be able to convince Kelly to leave the NFL....

Herman has really done a nice job at Houston and as the OC at Ohio St. But his resume as a HC is a bit too thin for me - he hasn't even completed one year...

Beyond the first 3, I'd have to think a bit harder....

Literally the only coach who is a slam dunk, no lose proposition candidate is Butch, correct? Just wanted to see if I was keeping up.

No Les Miles
No Richt
No Strong
No Herman
No Fuente
No Rich Rod
No Chud
No Schiano

I missing anyone?

So true

People need to look on the bright side though, literally every name I've seen mentioned (beside cristobal) are miles better than golden at coaching. Not saying golden should be the standard in which we base coaching, just saying regardless of who we hire, we're going to see an improvement in this program. (Although it really can't get worse than losing games 58-0)

No, the only consensus among this board is that it CAN'T be Mario or Strong. Those would both be horrible hires.

After that....it all depends. We just want to see a good COACH. Not a good RECRUITER. We need a guy who can play chess...cause God knows we've had 3 straight ****** staffs that were average at checkers.

I'd cut off a body part for Les Miles. And no...not all of us are 100% on the Butch bandwagon.

Is that the entire list of 40 from Korn Ferry? If it is, aside from a couple guys it's pretty desultory and littered with a few guys who can't get great results at similarly situated programs.

Butch is a **** good fallback option though in case UM fails to sell anyone great on the gig.

I've seen some of the same people who've said no to Chip Kelly, Les Miles, and Mark Richt say we should hire Mike Leach. What????

Ill say no too Miles, he is their Coker with better recruiting and money men.
Everyone has an opinion though

IMO Butch is the guy
Richt, Kelly, Chud, herman would all be good hires

So you don't consider Les Miles a good hire but then recommend Chud?

Pure insanity...

Dont want an average coach like miles

Chud my 5th choice btw can coach offense and could bring in a good staff
Miles has all the resources and cant find a decent offense

Miles would be a very good hire
Richt would be average cause I think he's past his prime
Strong - Not a bad hire but not good either. Too conservative on offense and needs a big talent advantage to win. Would take over Chud or Mario or Schiano
Herman - Very Good hire
Fuente - Good hire
Rich Rod - Average hire. His record at AZ is not as impressive as I thought.
Chud - Terrible
Schiano - Terrible
Gundy - Great hire
Patterson - Great hire
Mullen - Very Good hire
Kliff Texas tech coach - Average hire. Needs a good DC to really win
Butch - Good hire. I wouldve put him under very good but he hasn't coached in 5 years and his last stint at UNC was average.

Every coach needs a good DC to win. Not saying i want KK nor do i think he leaves, but his offense is a monster and if Gibbs the DC can do what he did at Houston and Auburn. Texas Tech will be really good in the future.
