I like Butch given what he's done here and I still think he has something left in the tank. But there are a plethora of candidates in this cycle. This wasn't the case when we got Golden (although I believe Mullen was available, and if so, won't get into it). The thing is the Butch extremists really bring down the coaching conversation and make it seem like he's not without fault. That if hired, he'll destroy the cfb landscape. He can build a team, that is certainly evident.
However, as mentioned before he's not without his faults. His gameday coaching is certainly suspect and Bruce Arians (who's a god**** good coach) has called him out publicly on it while he was with the Browns as part of Davis' staff. For most of the names mentioned Strong, Butch, and Ferman as well as the pipe dreams of Miles, Gundy, Patterson, etc.. I'd be happy with either of these hires. They're not perfect, but ****, if they were perfect they wouldn't be available.
However, no thanks to Schiano and Mario. Doesn't take a genius to figure out the disaster that either of them bring.
The problem here is that those who are anti Butch believe you supporting Butch makes you an extremist. The issue is that is why they are called extremist, it's because they are the minority and just like there are Butch "extremist" there are anti Butch extremist as well.
I think deep down 80% of the fan base would be happy with butch or a few of the other realistic candidates. the other 20% are the extremist for or against Butch where it's either can only be Butch or must not be Butch opinions. The other problem we have is unrealistic people who think guys like Dantoni, Patterson, Chip Kelly, Gundy, etc are going to leave their current positions to come here.
