It's called Token...not saying that they did, but a lot of institutions do. They hire the "token" so they can never be accused of not hiring a minority, but as soon as that minority messes up, it's curtains immediately. Once again,Ii'm not accusing UM of doing that, but don't be naive in to thinking that just b/c a minority is hired in a head position (whether that's an African American, Latino, or female for that matter) does not mean they are not being closely watched, and their leash is not shorter than if they were not a minority.
