Is anyone else surprised our running game wasn't as dominant as it could have been going into the game. I expected to see at least 3 or more 20+ yard runs, especially since I have seen it the previous 4 games. Chaney had a good game but we only averaged 3.5 YPC against a putrid Ga Tech run defense. What happened there?

Maybe we got fat on lower competition? That is a question that needs to be answered. We didnt really run on A&M. GT had like 125 ranked rush defense but we ran up middle every play.. no variety in run game, we barely pulled anyone, no outside runs, no reverses, no pitchouts, outside zone, just dive majority of time..

We have acc competition for rest of season, if we are legit 200 yard rushing team we should start to see it play out, if not, we just got fat off ohio, temple, bethune..

Also if we want explosive runs, we should use explosive players.. You dont see dolphins have that issue, I wonder why? Because SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. Also our WR need to do a better job blocking downfield.

We gain 20+ on the second run of the game (called back due to the 15 yd bs penalty that is rarely called). That was our only run over 12 yards.

We went to the run game because TVDs egregious ints and a passing plan that went stagnant. GaTech adjusted and loaded up the gaps--felt like M2M coverage but I'd have to see film to know.

A dive into a 7-8 man box is not a recipe for a successful running game especially when it's as predictable and telegraphed as we made it.

I think the bye allowed players to take the foot off the gas, get out of usual schedules, habits, routines and gave players the chance to look at the past 4 weeks and rest on that success. Everyone looked flat and unprepared. That's on everyone in the building, and I believe the team will rally and come out with a good product Saturday night. #GoCanes

The other guys have scholarship players too.

No choice but to give that defense some credit as well. We never really hit a crease and broke one, except for the hold/not hold for a touchdown.

There were a handful I remember where the play was there and a GT defender just closed it out at the last moment and saved the day. I believe Brashard had one of those, thought he was gone then one guy closed the gap. Just couldn’t pop one.

That was a soy milk vanilla game plan. And tech and their brand new DC ate it up. Stupid. We still should have won. We dominated those idiots in every facet except penalties and turnovers ignoring the obvious one

GT was presenting a 2 deep look but the weakside safety was playing robber looking at our RPO. If he thought we were running he was in the box to help giving them 7 in the box most of the night against 6 blockers. They also didn't respect our TEs out wide at all and would actually bring the DB off the TE for run support OR have them leave the TE to help cover WRs (one INT). Thus, we had 7-8 in the box and Dawson didn't make them pay more than twice with long balls. What happened to the “I’m trying to end this motherf—– right here. If they match up, we’re gonna throw the vertical.” ??

We actually had fewer penalties but ours cost us points (4 for us and 7 for them).
