SIAP:Mike Bobo on "the new" Mark Richt

LOL at all the beatdown schlubs on here with the "this isn't 2001 anymore" party line.

Bama fans could have said "this isn't the Bear era anymore" when they hired a long string of cumbums and didn't win anything of significance for 15 years between the Stallings NC and Saban's first NC. Nah. They knew what their program was capable of accomplishing under capable stewardship.

Demanding UM fans know the same thing. We've seen what UM can do under 4 different HCs in the 3 most recent decades. We're not talking about the 1940's and some program that won championships back then.

We didn't hire Richt to win 9 or 10 games and occasionally compete for the Coastal because "times have changed and UM fans shouldn't expect to compete for championships" whatever the fck that sissified trash means. Richt's decent level of success at UGA doesn't give him forever to accomplish decent results here.

Win 10 this year and the Coastal. Then, next year we need to be in the playoff discussion. Year 2 at marquee programs is when you can tell if you have an elite HC or not. If Richt flops in year 2 we'll know.

This fan base has battered wife syndrome. The expectation should remain that we are in the hunt for NC's every couple of years.

Sure hope so, because the one that just got fired is not good enough for THE U. He better be the "old" Mark.

I do not share the aggressiveness of your language but I sort of agree with your take in general.

In fact, this is my only real concern about the CMR hire. UM has done its best when we hire the next up and coming coach. Hiring what might be considered "a retread" is not what I believe is right for UM. My only real concern about CMR is, Does he still have the fire to wanna go the extra mile to win a national title. Its good to see at least one person saying that CMR seems to have a renewed vigor. From what I see, that's all CMR needs to win big at UM. He's already got the coaching, leadership and management skills. Just needs to rekindle that youthful fire. Here's hoping!!

Those who might remember hearing from me from time to time know that I'm very guarded in my comments about our Head Coaches. I supported giving Golden a long rope. We did the right thing even though it cost us a season. I wanted Butch because he to me gave us the best chance to get back to championships. We didn't hire him but significantly no one else has either. CMR was the best available so I understand but after selling myself on being comfortable I hope we are not hireing someone who is irreversibly on the down slope. With the exception of the DL coach I am not impressed with his hires, furthermore hireing his son is troublesome. Finally I am not a big fan of the HC also being the OC. I hope I'm wrong and if I'm right I hope he is not averse to making needed changes. He has a lot of positives including running a big time program for a lot of years. Good luck to him

I think those are all legitimate concerns/counter-points to the CMR hire. I think your concerns are warranted. Time will tell, I suppose.

I guess all we can do is hope that your concerns turn out to be minor in the big picture.

I agree with all of that. Still, I think Mark is a better coach than we have had in forever. I have high hopes for him, but would have been more comfortable had they hired Butch immediately after firing Al. If Mark fails, I am not sure the next hire will matter.
