Question for those of you that were at the game or have studied the tape
- Was the enormous amount of short passes due to FIU's Defense protecting against the deep ball or more about helping a young QB gain confidence ?

No matter the answer - Go Canes - Thanks

Upon re-watch, FIU stayed in 2 deep Safeties a ton. Besides obviously running the ball against other teams to get them out of that look, the seam route to Harley before half and another throw to Brevin Jordan outside the hash is how you crush that defensive shell. Solidly done by Nkosi - even if we'll end up seeing some ugly INTs in the middle of the field.

Yea they stayed two deep. I think it was to establish a rhythm but at the same time it’s an extension of the running game. Not much difference between a 5-7 yard run on first down and a screen that accomplished the same.

On another note, I like that Perry places the ball in a location that led the receiver upfield on the short stuff. Too often we’ve watched Malik put the ball behind the receiver or too high not allowing them to square up with the LOS.

Malik also tends to go for explosive plays instead of taking what's there or checking down. Being a hero was a knock on him early on and, despite his success in that role, it doesn't translate to offensive efficiency and moving the ball down the field.

FIU game planned to stop Malik. Playing 2 deep would of taken away the deep routes and would of forced Malik to throw intermediate routes that is what everyone has done to stop Rosier. Problem is Perry got in and he was able to hit those routes over the middle.

Well, that or FIU just didn't want to give up big plays no matter what.

They were RPOs. Kosi just did what 12 struggles with and that is making the proper reads and getting the ball out to the perimeter quickly. Kosi could've handed them off for 2 yard gains, but he made the proper read and play. not call, he took what the D was giving him.
