Runners jumping into defenders

Syracuse has told their runners including the qb to leap into defenders using the knee to inflict the maximum blow. No way this was an attempt to leapfrog. I'm surprised that's legal but apparently it is. It's dangerous not only to the defender but also to the runner. In my view refs ought to make a judgement call. If there is a reasonable chance that a defender can be leapfrogged fin but the crap we saw from Syracuse? Fifteen yard penalty.

How do you know that the Syracuse coaching staff told their runners to do this?

It's proliferating through college football. Seems like the football equivalent of sliding into first base.

All Richt needs to say is this: if teams want use knees to initiate contact and dish out punishment, fine. It's a physical sport. But then we will consider knees a legitimate target.

That will end it.

Defenders can't go high because of targeting, but offensive players can do flying knees. Legit
