Miami may have some early momentum in the race for one of Florida’s top defenders.
Rivals national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons has logged a 60% prediction for the Hurricanes to land 2028 four-star linebacker Gabriel Player, giving Miami an early edge in what’s expected to be a highly competitive recruitment.
Player, who plays at Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Florida, is listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He’s currently rated as the No. 41 overall prospect in the country, the No. 3 linebacker, and has a 93.06 Rivals rating.
It’s still early in the process, but Miami has made a habit of getting involved with the top players in Florida before the rest of the country catches up. Landing a prediction this far out doesn’t guarantee anything, but it shows the Hurricanes have already made a strong impression.
Player has the size and athleticism that stand out right away. He covers ground well, plays fast, and has the versatility to line up all over the field. As he continues to fill out his frame, his ceiling is as high as just about any linebacker in the 2028 class which I’ll show later with a film watch.
Recruitments can change quickly of course, especially this early, but Miami is in a good spot today. If the Hurricanes can keep building on the relationship they’ve established, they’ll have a legitimate chance to keep another elite in-state talent home.
