Ridley feeling Miami and Bama

Problem is UT has Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, TT, OK State, LSU, Arkansas to name a few that are basically living in Texas for the most part to recruit so it makes it even harder for them

When Texas is good, Baylor, Texas tech, TCU, etc don't have a shot. And they'll probably only be going head to head with LSU for Houston area kids.

UT has to get back though and Baylor is putting up a fight now recruits have to start taking notice

The state of Texas recruiting right now it is a little different than it's been for a long time. Texas is going through a period right now not too dissimilar from what Miami's going through in that they're getting further and further from the glory days and have been sort of embarrassing & a joke the last 5 years. Texas A&M is hotter than at any point I can remember in my life. That said - Texas is still Texas and most kids outside of Texas A&M country grow up in UT-favorable environments. Tech, Baylor, and TCU will continue to live and die on evals & coaching.... Baylor & Tech will get the rare prime-time QB/WR prospect and TCU will get the rare prime-time DFW prospect but for the most part, UT, A&M, and Oklahoma still fight for the 5 stars, with LSU having some 5star pull in East Texas.

Mack couldn't evaluate for **** & had a soft-*** culture - he was like the worst blend of Shannon & Coker in those regards, but their ability to easily pull big-name talent has kept them afloat (relatively) to some degree. That said, unquestionably Texas A&M getting hot with Manziel/SEC has put a dent into their ability to just go pull anyone at will. More of the top 15 kids in the state are feeling A&M than I can remember ever, especially some of the south Dallas inner-city kids who have never - in my lifetime - given two ***** about living in a place like College Station. I suspect that will change shortly. I think A&M falters without Manziel and things get back to normal with Strong at UT. With UT's pull, Strong's culture, and his ability to evaluate kids, I suspect they will get back on top in-state within 3 years, and the state should be able to provide them 90% of what they need. I do see Strong making a run at the weird kids in Florida (kids who have a Matt Thomas mentality who want to go to USC & get out of state just to be different) and maybe going after some South Florida defensive players - So Fla just produces SO **** MANY good defensive players.

I don't see him leaving the state excessively, - it would **** off the Texas HS coach egos which can be gigantic and obviously state pride is a whole different level here - but I don't see any reason why he wouldn't target 3-4 Florida kids per year and maybe land 1-2 of them annually. He's charismatic, has the ties in Miami, he's AA, and Texas has a **** ton more to offer than Louisville. The good ol' boy sentiment will keep him from going HAM recruiting out of state, though, I *think*.
