Man, I wanted Mark to win so badly and to show how wrong UGA was for letting him go! But, the same **** problems that led to him getting fired are the same **** problems that he hasn't corrected in Miami.
I love a comeback story and I always believe a good man, and Mark is one, can change for the better. Now, that he's out of playoff contention (yes, mathematically he isn't, but LSU will drop 3 this year, so be realistic about who he just lost to) and there's no way in **** that OL+Malik generate enough O to beat Clemps'son, even if every break went our way.
So, the smartest thing he could do is clean house and build for the future.
1st, we have 4 automatic wins (please don't overreact and say no game is an automatic - we won't lose any of the next 4 games). That is ample time to replace Malik and build for the future. Unfortunately, Mark is almost certainly not going to do that. He'd prefer to spare Malik's feelings and waste a year on a marginally talented 5th year senior. I truly hope that isn't the case, but come on guys, you know that's what he's going to do.
And, when the season is over, he HAS to fire the "Best OL coach in America." That's what Mark has called Searles despite the fact that the stats and your own lyin' eyes can clearly see that he has NOT improved the OL in the 3 seasons that he's been here.
Finally, Find another position for Hartley or get rid of him, but he cannot continue to be the ST's coach. With our athletes, we should be able to cover much better than we do and this sloppy kick/punt coverage, combined with missed assignments in punt protection and a lousy punter to boot (pun intended) is not something Saban, Fischer, Swinney or Meyer, all active coaches who've won a NC, would allow.
Will Mark do these necessary things? I doubt it. I think he will keep Searles and will play Malik until he runs out of eligibility and then beg the NCAA to give him a 6th year. Consider, by giving Malik this whole year to squander, instead of going with the future, we are negatively impacting next year's season. Whoever will take over for that season will not have the snaps going into it and we get to start all over again.
Oh well...after we play and lose in the Whocares.com bowl, I can get bamboozled again by Mark next season.
