Richt vs App State 11/9/2013

All this talk on here about app and strategy and none of us brought it up that richt played them 3 years ago? Lmao

45-6 final richt said it would have been close if they would have made those 4 field goals....

45-6. I could see us winning that way tomorrow. Wouldn't shock me at all.

Not saying I expect that spread (I think we'll win by 14-21 and I'd guess they score more than 6), but again, wouldn't shock me.

They were still FCS then, so I'm not sure how comparable it really is.
Seeing as how many of the players we are playing tomorrow are seniors and were on that team that got beat by Georgia I would say it is at least more relevant than people talking about app beating Michigan like people have been saying back in 2007

They didn't all of a sudden become better when NCAA let them be fbs

in fcs they were the top of the food chain..... in fbs they are going to be the bottom half of the food chain. school hasnt changed and the players they are getting hasnt changed either.

And the beatdown they will get is the same.

Players they are getting may not have changed, but they are now allowed to give 85 scholarships to those guys where as they only would have had 65 in 2013.

Most telling quote in article (re: App St O):

"...Once the field got squeezed, they had to settle for the field goal attempts. But they had a good plan..."

There offense then...there offense tomorrow, like against Tenn, needs short fields against D1P5 to score points. With their quick throw philosophy to keep the QB protected, of course they will get a share of short completions. When the boundaries act as an extra defender (i.e. red zone) and an opposing D makes a few stops, they don't seemingly have a mid/long range vertical strike capability.

Again, Cox's 30yd catch and run TD happened ONLY because the DE...yes DE...fell down that 1) allowed the catch in the first place, and 2) allowed Cox to run after because the DE tripped flat on his back.

It's those catastrophic breakdowns that App St will need on more than one occassion to threaten even an average performing Hurricane squad.

App St did not score again after 8:53 in the 2Q. Zero. Nothing. Nada. Thats 1/2 2Q, all of 3Q and 4Q, and the OT possession.

This is 100% a Canes victory to lose.

Go Canes. Unleash ****.

I did not know Richt has previously played them. This makes me feel even more confident.

Couple of things to consider. 1) We had extraordinarily conservative play calling that year and a couple years around it, i.e. run it up the middle every first down, without fail, for a 1 yard gain. 2) We had a head coach in his first year with the team, with all of the previous coaches recruits. 3) We didn't have FBS scholarships to compete with depth. We did hold Georgia decently in the first half until we ran out of steam due to that lack of depth.

Excited for the fight guys, I expect it to be a good one.

I don't.

I hope Richt absolutely murder these guys. I know the press will be negative but I can see it.

You still have extraordinarily conservative playcalling.

I will not argue that one bit, but amazingly it's better than it has been in the past. I and everyone else in the stands knew it was a draw play every first down, no matter what.

I've been saying this **** since Fall camp...

They haven't beaten a P5 team in 9 years...

But it really doesn't matter, a lot Canes fans just need something to worry about, it's just their internal makeup.
It's their disposition, they don't know how be confident about anything. We still got a lotta Foldenized ****heads in the fanbase, and unfortunately they just won't leave.

seems like it is disguised a bit more with formations but we know the run is coming from someone out of somewhere. I suppose our trigger happy DC will be trying to blow stuff up before a play can develop.

you may catch us here and there with our over-aggression, but you can only pull so many wr throw back passes off a jet sweep to your qb out of your pocket.

I'm not sure many people are legit worried. To me this game isn't a cupcake, but I don't think it'll be close or anything. Just Imo cupcake games are against the fcs. App st is more along the lines of playing Duke, where it is possible we can lose, but with average coaching won't happen.
I mean anyone really concerned with losing this game is obviously still reeling from having Golden as coach. I can't really blame anyone for being overly cautious about buying in after the past decade of ****.
