Richt on Rosier's 3 Picks

Rosier’s three interceptions against the Hokies aren’t a major concern for Richt. “We knew we were going to have to be aggressive against this defense,” he said. He didn’t sense Rosier was gun-shy after the picks, one of which came on a tipped ball. Quarterbacks coach Jon Richt, his son, told the quarterback “don’t flinch.”

And then this ...

What was Richt thinking on the fourth-down call early? “I’m Mr. Kick a Field Goal No Matter How Bad it Hurts … but you know what, I got so mad we couldn’t get that darn thing in there” that UM went for it. “It wasn’t a good call. … It was bad, but I was mad. We went into this game saying, ‘We can’t flinch.'” It didn’t work, but he wasn’t upset Virginia Tech’s offense had to try to go 95 yards against UM’s defense.

Coach was uncharacteristically aggressive against VT and I loved every bit of it. From the very beginning you could just tell we knew we were the better team.

The long ball was just a bad throw. I didn't mind that pick too much. Gotta take a shot in that scenario, he just under-threw it.

Another pick was a late throw.

The pick in the middle of the field looked like an RPO that VT played really well. Rosier probably should've handed the ball off there.

VT isn't exactly terrible on defense, they're gonna make their share of plays.

Yes the 1st pick didn't bother me at all as it was like a punt and those happen on bombs at times. The 2nd pick was a tip but the 3rd was just a bad bad throw . It happens but Rosier isn't turnover prone so I wasn't too concerned. I loved going for it to start the game to be honest.

The INT over the middle was a bad throw. Richards was open down the seam and Rosier just had to throw it over the defense rather than a line drive. As for the deep ball, yeah, he could have led Thomas more but Thomas could have made a better play on the ball. The in route on the Thomas route was a sh1tty route. Thomas ran that lazy and half gave up on the route. Rosier should have probably waited for the pattern to develop a little more but he threw it where thomas should have been. JMO.

I didn't like the redzone call, but I respect the motivation. Just wish he'd taken a timeout and told his guys the absolutely had to sack up and win this play, then run something they're good at.

Should not even have come down to fourth and goal. Langham was mugged on the second down fade. Can't believe they didn't call that.

The pick over the middle was an RPO. That's why Berrios was run blocking and Rosier's eyes were fixated on the Safety.
Rosier just made the wrong read. The defender he was reading didn't come down and defend the run, he just hovered in the middle, so Rosier should've handed it off. Instead he pulled it and tried to throw the ball to Richards on a line, which is normally what that play/pass would call for. If he was more savvy he would've put some air under it but normally that play calls for a line/rope throw. He's programmed to throw that ball on a rope during that play.

The pick to Thomas was thrown too far outside. Ball should've been lofted into the middle of the field, away from the CB. There's nothing Thomas could've done there. The ball was heading over his shoulder, it wasn't a jump ball for him. He didn't even know the CB was on his tail, he thought the ball was coming over his shoulder.

The 3rd pick, the throw was late. Thomas had some separation initially but he was Rosier's 2nd read and he threw it late, giving the CB an opportunity to squeeze on the route. Thomas still could've done a better job helping Rosier out though.

I know the picks were on Rosier, but I would like to see Thomas help him out and play a little defensive back when that happens.

Per Richt this AM on the Joe Rose show, he blamed the 3rd pick on the WR running the wrong route.

I'm okay with the picks, but if your going to throw jump balls, it better not be to little WR's or ones that will not fight for it. Thomas and Harley ain't there yet... I know one pick was to Thomas and one was to AR. I think the tipped ball was over the middle, maybe to Herndon?

Please stay aggressive the entire game against nd. Do not let up. Pour it on. Keep the petal to the metal. Balls to the wall. You get the idea.

Richt needs to go to the mentality of being aggressive every game. We have the athletes. Being conservative is what got his *** fired from UGA.

Richt said one pick was a tipped ball, one was the WR fault running the wrong route and one the defender made a great play on the throw (Rosier could have thrown it better).
Richt actually said Rosier wasn't making bad decisions out there or throwing balls for grabs. Some fans keep trying to emphasize Rosier mistakes and bring up his limitations or talk about how bad of QB he is. Just to prove their point he docent belong here.

I didn't like the 4th down decision on the opening drive. Not because of the decision itself, I like the, "dammit we're getting 7 or you're going 95 yards to get yours." What I didn't like was the sequencing of plays. We were being aggressive but at the same time conservative doing the same stuff we've struggled with most of the season only to then try the pitch. I would like to have seen us target Herndon on a bootleg, etc. Whatever. Water under the bridge.

The 4th down play call on the opening drive was the worst call Rick made all day. You can tell it was a frustration call. As soon as I saw that FB come in I was hoping we weren’t going to try to ram it in behind him. No problem with the decision; the call was horrific.

Shouldn’t have come to that anyway given the rape of Langham in the endzone.

not a fan of the hurry up to the line and try to rush a play in that we did on 1st down either. ive seen us do that a few times this year with a quick run, and never seems to work out.

however, now that we've shown that a few times on film this year.. if we get the same scenario against ND, and we have a play action pass we can pull out of that same formation, i wont be too upset. get rosier out of the pocket with a run/pass option and a dragging herndon.
