The solution is to break up the mega conferences in to 8 'divisions' of 10 teams, for a total of 80 teams.

Everyone plays everyone their division, 9 games, plus 3 OOC games. Each division winner is determined on the field, using logic tiebreakers.

OOC games can be used for seeding. Play tougher games and get the higher seeds, win or lose. No G5 or FCS teams.

The eight division winners make up the playoff pool. No rankings. No wildcards.
The eight division winners play four games.
The four winners play two games.
The two winners play for the championship.
