• It is no surprise that Miami has a logjam at running back with the Class of 2015. So with that, it also shouldn't come as a surprise that the Canes may try to slowly weed out at least one of their commits. Right now, that may be Jordan Cronkrite, who may be allowed to leave without much of a fight. One possible destination for Cronkrite may be Florida, where he is likely to visit this weekend for their home game against Kentucky. While it is too early to say if he will end up at Florida, it definitely would be surprising if he ended up at Miami when ink goes to paper in February. The 'Canes appear to really want to keep Dexter Williams in this class moreso than Cronkrite, but sources are saying he's digging USC and if he likes his visit out there, a cross country commitment isn't out of the question. Regardless, 2016 running back Mark Walton is the best of the bunch. He's an absolute stud, although Jordan Scarlett, Williams and Cronkrite are nothing to sneeze at. Now if only Miami could have similar log jam issues at bigger positions of need.
• While schools like Florida, Florida State, Miami, Clemson and USC have been mentioned as leaders for four-star running back Tim Irvin of Palmetto Bay (Fla.) Westminster Christian, it is actually West Virginia and South Carolina that are the first two schools to secure an official visit. Irvin will be in Morgantown on the weekend of Sept. 20 for the game against Oklahoma, while the South Carolina date is still being worked out. While Miami still has to be considered a leader for Irvin, can WVU assistant JaJuan Seider work some more of his magic in Dade/Broward County? It will be a tough battle for the Mountaineers, but not one where they should be overlooked, especially since the 'Canes want Irvin as a defensive back.
• We all know Miramar, Fla., cornerback Tyrek Cole is not headed to Florida State despite his denials of a de-commitment late last week as the 'Noles dropped him a few months ago, according to numerous sources. Where he ends up is the big question. I think West Virginia is the best fit over Miami because his former coach, Damon Cogdell, is up in Morgantown and can guide him through some of the issues that made the 'Noles sour on him.
