he played under Paterno and believes in his philosophy. The problem is you look at when Paterno actually had some success and it was because his guys were physically bigger than most teams on the O & D line. There was no need for his teams to be aggressive on D because they would wear down the opposing OL as the game went on. Paterno played it close to the vest with the hopes of pulling it out in the 4th quarter. I will give Paterno credit that this worked for a period of time, but as college football evolved he failed to evolve with it and his teams became irrelevant.

Golden wants to play close to the vest and hope to win in the 4th quarter, but that style of coaching no longer works. He believes he is the smartest guy in the room but reality does not support that thinking.

I'm not going to lie, I actually thought he would end up being a good hire for the program but he simply has not adjusted his scheme on D.
